I worked at Avaya (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They offer a Good salary and flexible work schedule. They have a good VO policy and excellent tools for remote users.

    Cons

No true leadership. Just executives taking advantage and collecting salaries and bonuses they do not deserve. They will work you to the bone, 14 hour days and weekends with no reward, don't work the hours! Raises, bonuses and 401k have been almost non-existent for the past few years, but the execs continue to get their compensation.

    Advice to Management

Leadership is completely ineffective and in their arrogance they believe they are what makes makes the company. TPG And Silverlake need to clean house, starting with Kevin Kenedy. He and his leadership team have dragged a once successful company in to the gutter. I feel badly for the people who bust their rear ends to help Avaya.

I worked at Avaya (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Engineering team, former Bell labs engineers are some of the best most incredible people to work with. They helped set the standards for current network.

    Cons

Avaya is going through many transitions and restructuring

    Pros

    Virtual Office, Flex vacation time

    Cons

Benefits, Salary raise, Bonus Income, 401K matching are all lacking for such a large company.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

top notch technical talent; generally pays well

    Cons

over-extended teams, not provided sufficient resources to truly be successful. Inconsistent behavior by Sr. Management to both sell what is available while (over)promising on a vision.

I worked at Avaya full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Enviable customer base with once-loyal repeat buyers

    Cons

A complete lack of understanding of the market and "good ole boy" network within the company. Nortel acquisition did more harm than good, forcing a networking solution that drags down the financials every quarter.

What the layoffs don't get to, the offers of "packages" do, leaving a staff of "has been" and "never were" to provide and attempt to execute strategy

    Advice to Management

    sell

I have been working at Avaya full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Income is good .. But if let go, not so good.
Decent Products with Good Customer Base
Income is good but comparable with other companies. Home office for sales but not for every role.

    Cons

Poor Culture, Stressful Conditions, Fear-Based. Focus on Negative, often Hostile and Degrading. Benefits are not up to par. No 401K match so far and high cost medical out of pocket.
Discretionary Vacation lends the opposite affect... You do not feel like you deserve a vacation or know when you can take it.

    Advice to Management

Respect the people that are making it happen and are customer facing. The way we are treated and dealt with is demotivating and demoralizing and will affect the customer ultimately. You are going to loose good people.

This is also evident with the Partner Community. A good portion of Partner relationships are very poor. They don't trust/respect AVAYA in many cases and it IS expressed to customers. SIMPLY PUT... We are dysfunctional and need therapy and POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT to keep going. You should hug us not hate us:-( Small acts of kindness and mutual respect would work miracles.

I worked at Avaya full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They have very good technology. Most of the people are great! As usual, your experiences will depend on your manager.

    Cons

Poor Management especially in sales. Marketing is non-existent. Never got a raise in salary in the 7 years I worked there.

    Advice to Management

Reward your people! Don't manage using fear. Let Sales people be Sales People and Engineers be Engineers. If you compensate the desired behaviors and it doesn't work, you have failed to give enough value for the task.

I worked at Avaya (More than a year)

    Pros

Big projects with big responsibilities. Good pay. Co-workers are friendly. Somewhat flexible virtual commute (work from home).

    Cons

Lacking professional development. Leadership changes makes for unstable strategy. Cross-Functional collaboration is hard to find and create. Avaya is transforming its business model which can be difficult work environment.

    Advice to Management

Needs more stable leadership. Align short-term goals with long-term strategy. Invest more in professional development. Cultivate greater cooperation between different lines of business.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice people and pretty good technology until you get to the CMS/ backend systems which is pretty much locked down and very difficult to work with. I will say that this in not uncommon in my experience.

    Cons

Avaya used to be lucent and has traditionally been a manufacturer and provider of desktop phones, a business that is rapidly disappearing. There seems to be no clear vision on transitioning to a software company. There are efforts underway to deal with these problems but it may be too little too late.

    Advice to Management

    Innovate or die.
