Pros
Performed many roles while working at Avaya. Felt like a valued member of the team. Very collaborative environment. Good pay. Good benefits. Nice people.
Cons
Not a lot of ability to move upward in the organization. Layoffs occur on a frequent basis and if you can’t find another position in the company you are out. But they pay termination.

Jul 13, 2016 - Sales Engineer in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Work from home policy is great Embedded base is pretty loyal Day-to-day freedom to get your job done Base salary is solid Interesting work
Cons
Constant changes in upper management (senior VP level and secondary cxo suite) prevents initiatives/strategies from playing out Debt load is brutal and despite being the clear driver behind layoffs/furloughs management cherry picks stats to deny it as an issue in internal messaging. Layoffs don't seem to have much thought behind them other than the balance sheet - positions are eliminated that almost immediately require backfill Account managers are rarely knowledgable about what they are selling which puts a huge strain on the shrinking SE teams - management is either unaware of this or do not see it as an issue. Business partner community is coddled and can complain there way into being allocated resources, discounts and exceptions from certification requirements

Lacking Leadership

Location and attitude of fellow workers. These folks are committed! The R&D facility in Westminster well located, a cool building, and traffic is not bad.
Cons
Recently, the actions Sr. Management has been especially chaotic. Huge swings in priorities combined with punishing layoffs have demonstrated desperation more so than leadership.

Very good people in general, those that are left and innovative products. The ability to work remotely or from home is a plus.
Cons
No balance of work and home life. Lack of any real direction for products - upper management does not understand the company and the direction it is going does not make sense. No bonus to speak of. Features are constantly being cut as there is no budget and/or there are perpetual layoffs.

Pros
Great technology, people were knowledgeable and overall friendly. Probably could have been promoted if i would have stayed. The Nortel acquisition really filled some holes in the Avaya portfolio, e.i. switching.
Cons
Too many reorgs and layoffs. Always concerned about the debt and direction of the company. Seems like they want to become a software based UC company but that competes directly with Lync/Skype which is a very tough competitor, especially when it comes to price.

Welcome to the Stone Age of Management

The people that you work with. Smart, talented and always willing to help you.
Cons
Unbearable workload given the constant employee layoffs (50% employee reduction and counting in the last 5 years). Employees rarely get a pay increase or a bonus. No career opportunities. The company does not have a coherent human capital strategy other than cost reduction. There’s not even a Sr. Human Resources Officer at the leadership team… Until recently, some employees had the possibility to work remotely using Avaya technology like Scopia video calls. However the virtual work options was eliminated or severely restricted.

Company with challenges, good products, nice teams of people, different management directions.

The company has some awesome products. I love Scopia (Radvision's Video Conferencing), great phones, good conferencing products - Avaya Aura. Nice Legacy products - Nortel, etc..
Cons
Struggle to transform the company from HW to SW focus, migrating old installed HW base to new product. Layoffs every year for past 10 years + (from both sides the Nortel side and Avaya side).

Good pay, great for telecommuting, limited opportunities for promotion and advancement
Nov 6, 2008 - Senior Manager in Basking Ridge, NJRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good pay relative to other companies. Management is very good about letting people work from home. Good medical benefits and generous vacation package
Cons
Very difficult to get promoted. Unless you have an advocate pushing for you, you are on your own. VP's often have no real understanding of projects they manage. Work gets delegated down until ultimately only the folks at Manager and Senior Manager level are the ones getting anything done. The company has gone through massive layoffs over the past 2 years and there are reorg's every 6 months. It is impossible to feel that there is any job security in an environment like this.
