Goodbye after 17 years... Best move I made!
Oct 4, 2017 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
You get a paycheck and there are good people you'll work along side of.
Cons
It's a boys club... what I can tell you from my time at Avaya, what used to be a great company, is no more. This company has been dismantled by people that have no business in their roles up to the higher ups making poor business decisions and cutting corners anyway they can. My best advice to anyone still working at Avaya, start looking ASAP, this is a strong job market and eventually this ship will take on too much water to keep up with it's competitors or possibly sink. Anyone applying, make sure you look at all your options and try to go w/ a BP. If you are a customer reading this, please do yourself and your company a big favor, look at your options before you renew that contract or have plans to upgrade your environment. Think CLOUD! From there horrible services support model in India, Canada and Argentina, to their onsite field support technicians that know nothing about the products Avaya sells or how to fix them. Customers are being robbed and can't see through the dog and pony show, don't believe me... look a little closer next time... Ask questions. Avaya for years now has been sub contracting all there remote T2/T3 engineers from Inovasia, they are not even Avaya employees or have a good understanding of what they are supporting, it's quite the smoke show and Avaya has gotten real good at lying to everyone. I finally realized it wasn't the company I was once was proud being a part of and loved working for. I was tired of lying to our customers and making up excuses at every corner, life's too short to be working for a company that does not acknowledge their hardworking employees anymore. Horrible health benefits, no raises or bonus for most, they took away our vacations time and 401k match. Ugh... I could go on and on... but at the end of the day, ex CEO is LOL to the bank since 2009.

Don't work here if you can help it.

Good pay and some wonderful co-workers
Cons
Massive off-shoring leads to your job being at risk every couple of months it seems. Senior Management not in touch with what is happening and favorites get promoted. No concern for work/life benefits. No communication downward. While benefits are still good, they continue to get cut. There is no fun to be had and very unfriendly environment in that people barely talk in the building

People there is excellent talent within Avaya and most of the time your peers are very supportive Flexibility - could balance time between office and home
Cons
Leadership Management is dysfunctional and not effective. Management likes to lead by fear No alignment between groups Whilst Flexible you are micro managed technology old and no investments to modernise it

Avaya continues to spins its wheels while waiting to be purchased.

Management and associates are great. Ability to work from home is great. Benefits are great.
Cons
Company seems to lay off people to meet quarterly numbers and doesn't seem to be interested in their future. Spinning wheels waiting to be purchased by another company. People are stressed about losing their jobs and therefore just do enough to get their work done. They are not putting more effort. You see this in quality of products and quality of work.

Very nice people work there and their technology is impressive when it is honestly evaluated on its technical merits.
Cons
Training seemed unrealistic as to the realities of the real world when I first started. There should have been more experienced people teaching classes in order to prepare salespeople for the competitive nature of the marketplace.

Struggling from quarter to quarter

Great people and a few left that came from the original spin from AT&T to Lucent to Avaya.
Cons
Long hours with no bonuses and very rare salary increases make it very hard to stay motivated. Probably best not to view this as a long term opportunity.

Management, short term focus and constant "stick" mentality have ruined a great company
Aug 19, 2016 -RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great people at a sales level and pre-sales level, some leading innovative solutions and a hard work ethic across the company. It was a fun place to work 5+ years ago.
Cons
I worked at Avaya for 10 years and have seen good times and bad. The last 3 years the company has been rudderless. No real drive from the management who are only focused on EBITDA as this KPI is what the senior leadership team get paid multi million dollar bonuses for. The functionality in the solutions is great, but it lacks attention to detail such as a dull and drab agent desktops, poor omni channel reporting and a real lack of of strong, solid, business focused references that show ROI, TCO and relevant tangibles. Avaya claims it has a strong cloud offering, it doesnt, Avaya's cloud offer is a private cloud which is way too expensive and their partner offerings are limited. The debt is killing Avaya, the downgrading of the credit ratings is killing Avaya, the 'lets employ my friends' mentality of the managment is kiliing Avaya, the lack of Avaya resource within Avaya's faithful channel partners is killing Avaya, the constant reduction in resource and employee count is killing Avaya. Too many great people have left for these reasons and they have not replaced them with any better ones.

Pros
There are some highly competent and intelligent people who have helped keep a dangerously lean marketing organization afloat. The pay was average for the technology sector but the benefits were not.
Cons
The consistent headcount cuts and rotating CMOs have left the organization in shambles. Those left in marketing are faced with long work hours, dwindling resource and are at the mercy of a CMO who is desperately trying to prove value to the C-suite at any cost. Employees are burning out, the good ones are leaving or on the verge of leaving and the quality of work is suffering. The phrase "if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere" was commonplace, and that, frankly, is not a good sign. Beyond marketing, the company has been struggling financially and not matching 401Ks due to a lack of revenue. Avaya was downgraded by Moody's as well and the ship seems to be sinking. The latest round of layoffs have left gaps in key business areas that will not be filled.
