    Advice to Management

Typically, you're stuck cleaning up someone else's mess. If you're a hard-worker, you'll realize that 85% of the people you work with are lazy and inconsiderate to the next person. You can pretty much get anyone hired here that has a clean record and can work, meaning that you can probably get your lazy friends hired here. Management is toxic, they will let anyone be a manager who strokes their.. back.. the right way. A lot of favoritism.. A LOT.. If you decide to call them out on something completely wrong, be prepared to have them try and fire you. You can write all of the complaints you want against management, or even other employees, but they will some how end up in the garbage. Eventually, you'll notice that the place is toxic and that the pay and benefits are definitely not worth all of the drama.

I worked at Averitt Express full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits used to be better but still aren't awful and the pay is solid for those who work as drivers and dock associates. Top of the line equipment for the most part and quality facilities.

    Cons

Associates are taken advantage of by management on the regular. I worked in three different departments in my time with the company and felt hung out to dry on more than one occasion in all roles. Averitt needs to take a long hard look at their training development and spend more timing developing a quality work environment as much as they bend over backwards to keep customers happy. It's easy to sit in the office and guarantee service to a customer when you aren't the one providing the service.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the people who take care of you. Don't take advantage of people just because you know you can. Lose the seniority rule when it comes to dock leadership roles. Just because a person has been with the company for 20+ years doesn't mean they are the best fit for a certain role. Support your lower management staff more as well. Give them the tools to be successful!Lose the "good ole boy" system. It's 2017.

    Pros

Not strict on coming in early (getting extra hours) or showing up a little late
Good hourly wage starting out with 50 cent raises every 3 months

    Cons

Driving a forklift can be tedious
Can get stuck unloading trucks that are significantly more difficult than others
Must work Saturday mornings as a part-time new hire

    Advice to Management

Clear training on how to properly load trailers would be immensely helpful

I worked at Averitt Express full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Home daily and the work culture was pretty good .

    Cons

No sick time given to drivers, so throughout the year if you get sick the only option they have is to use your vacation time.

    Advice to Management

Sick time would be great for drivers being that they work in the elements daily. Granting drivers some sick days each year will keep them from using up vacation days when sick or due to bad weather stopping operations.
