I have been working at Avery Dennison full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been blessed to have been with Avery Dennison for many years and had exposure to some of the top managers during this time. I have been regularly impressed with their desire to do the right thing and live up to the stated company values. They fail at times as individuals, they have blindspots or act too quickly, but generally they work hard at satisfying the customer and respecting the interests of the employees.

    Cons

    - Reach for workforce reductions too quickly and with too broad a focus. The interest is to cut costs but there is no financial target, the goal is headcount regardless of where it comes from.
    - Too many decisions made without factual backup, reliance on gut feel.

I have been working at Avery Dennison full-time

    Pros

Everyone that I met at Avery Dennison was very nice and helpful. The compensation package is very nice as well.

    Cons

Avery Dennison has a very strong work culture and environment. They tend to only hire people that fit their mold and they miss out on top talent.

    Advice to Management

Their should be more opportunities to move up in this company. Their is a lot of ficus on the leadership development program and not other employees.

I have been working at Avery Dennison full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Profitable Fortune 500 with opportunity for growth. Lean corporate team so opportunity to be involved with many aspects of the business. Diverse business portfolio with products touching many industries. Opportunity for personal growth, at least in the communications team.

    Cons

Lots of business restructuring despite being a profitable company. Corporate a very lean team, so there is a lot of work and not much time to start/create new projects. Most new positions are contractor so it's hard to achieve long term continuity. Basically only cost of living raises and no bonuses outside of high level executives.

    Advice to Management

Fewer contractor staff. Provide bonuses or more substantial salary increases for productive employees.

    Pros

Global Company that is very diverse and treats everyone fairly from the boardroom to the shop floor. People tend to stay for 10 + years . Avery Dennison is great about recognizing and promoting talent from within. Cares greatly about CSR.

    Cons

A bit of turn over recently due to down markets . Because for the global aspect there tends to be lots of travel

    Advice to Management

Stick with a strategy for a bit longer to see it through before re adjusting. Invest more in innovation and think about long term profits.
