I worked at Avery Dennison full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Leverage on the name of a MNC. Not much pros of working in this company. Everything is built on the past.

    Cons

Complicated organization structure, lack of direction, and systems & processes all very lag behind. Company objectives not aligned. New staff not welcoming and could never fit into the culture.

    Advice to Management

Set clear strategies and directions for the team. Invest in system and align each department's goals with company strategies.

I have been working at Avery Dennison full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flexible at times, Christmas break

    Cons

Understaffed, thus more and more is being added to your plate without any addition to your pay. The salaries are lower than average market rate. The salary increases are minimal 3% a year. No opportunity to grow. You have to bend backwards 100 times to even get anywhere. However, some people get over promoted. So much politics involved. Very top heavy. If you are friends with the right person, you will fly the corporate latter to the top, if not, too bad you would be at the bottom.

    Advice to Management

Stop wasting money on executive expenses and travel. Hire more people so the current employees are not overworked. Give employees opportunities to grow within the company.

I worked at Avery Dennison (More than 8 years)

    Pros

-They have great benefits with fairly low cost health insurance.
-I worked with some great people while I was there. Some great people from the GOLD program, but they all seemed to get fed up and leave or find better opportunities.

    Cons

Key motivating factors were missing for me: Autonomy and purpose.
Way too many decision makers make it difficult to make things happen. Lots of politics and people rolling over to the newest leader's train of thought on how to win. It was often an emperor's new clothes situation.

One major example was when Paxar was acquired, the idea was to centralize and globalize operations to share best practices and expertise. After failing at this for 8 YEARS, leadership did a 180 and is in the process of DE-centralizing operations.

    Advice to Management

Make it more of a meritocracy instead of an old boys club.
Make decisions and execute them quickly; don't take 8 years for a failing strategy to change.

I worked at Avery Dennison full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some (note only some) peers are nice

    Cons

You always need to be on your toes, almost everyone will try to stab you at any opportunity to make them look good, even with petty things.
Company also encourage to let the employee fight it out,as long as what they requested is done
    Very average pay
Nepotism (let's say some people get promoted in a very short period of time just because they are related to top honchos)

I worked at Avery Dennison as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only pro to this company is money, but watch what you wish for.

    Cons

They hold the temporaries to a higher standard then their own employees. They also treat the temporaries like the lowest thing on earth.

    Advice to Management

Learn that people make mistakes and you don't fire them just for one bad day, especially when you say they have a great work ethic and good attitude. Really, maybe you should rethink that decision.

    Pros

Good salary. Even there is a 20 word minimum for this field, there is nothing else positive I could say about Avery Dennison.

    Cons

Miserable work environment by ongoing re-structuring. Brown nosing is the only way to get ahead, not experience, expertise and ability.

    Advice to Management

Hire some leaders that can manage people and don't need to be managed by people.

I worked at Avery Dennison full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There's not a lot of work so there's good work life balance. This doesn't mean you learn nothing. You learn a lot, especially in the complicated processes, but all of this is non-transferable knowledge.

    Cons

Salary and promotion opportunities. I'm shocked at how badly this place pays. They offer you a high salary to make you jump over, but salary increases after that is 5% per year. Management is stubborn as well, only prefer people to do things their way. Different treatment between colleagues in different areas. Due to the complexity, there is high turnover around here and a shortage of staff in some departments so many managers are only managers in title only.

    Pros

    Good salary, lot's of flexibility

    Cons

Lousy management, ever changing strategy without really knowing what it takes to win

    Advice to Management

Make your mind up and stick to chosen strategy. Treat employees as true valuable assets rather than a number. Stop hire & fire HR-strategy.

I have been working at Avery Dennison full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company provides competitive pay and decent benefits. There is opportunity to earn commission in certain positions.

    Cons

Being expected to work seven days a week, 24 hours a day, even while on vacation. There's no real leadership. No real job definitions. No opportunity for growth

    Advice to Management

It isn't enough just to listen to your employees complaints and concerns. You actually have to do something about it.
