I have been working at Avid Technology full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Really nice office space and awards on display

    Cons

Board chose current nice-guy CEO after last CEO was fired for "misconduct". The new CEO has been at Avid for more than five years though and supported last CEO the entire time. He presided as the head of Sales and Marketing over the Avid's largest and most accelerated decline in sales. Rest of the the executive team (CPO, CLO) and middle-management have all been there forever and don't know how to reverse the decline....

    Advice to Management

Hire new people outside of the industry. Older, male hardware employees dominate the culture. If you're in your 40s at Avid, you're considered young.

I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some really hard working and bright people. Most with any sense and credibility have already left.

    Cons

Living off the legacy business with no new innovation, It is amazing the CEO has fooled the BOD for so long. Maybe they should ask him about his return on investment on the Orad purchase, pennies on the dollar. What a joke. No accountability at the top.

    Advice to Management

Clean house of all those who think they can grow the business through cutting staff, customer associations, facility rationalization, failed acquisitions, low revenue user growth and generic press releases with no substance related to Avid's performance in the markets it serves. Five years is up, time to move on with new and effective leadership

I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

None anymore. The few people that are still the heart of Avid and have stayed would be the only pro. Everything else is fluff and lies.

    Cons

Having spent my whole adult life here I can truly say I watched Avid deteriorate until it barely exists. Good people who cared and tried to make a difference would come in, get beat down then eventually throw the towel in and move on. The technology is not cutting edge. The staff are treated horribly and underpaid compared to . Outsourcing is king in every department. Raises and bonuses are urban legends but each new...

I worked at Avid Technology full-time

    Pros

Lot of very smart people on staff Challenging work Up to date technology in most cases

    Cons

Poor management can't think outside the box Politics are brutal as managers are scarred to death of the executive leadership team Brutal work hours-expect 55+ hour weeks for most of the Used to be a really fun, creative place to work but in last 2 years has really gone downhill

    Advice to Management

Be honest with the employees if you must have rolling layoffs explain why When you have good employees think about re-assigning them to crucial projects instead of letting them go Moving jobs to FL isn't really working for those left behind who are already over-worked

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Avid Technology for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent product portfolio, loyal customer base.

    Cons

Culture can be very political during at times. Several years of downsizing leaves people overextended. Work/life balance is not always bad, but it can be very tough for long periods.

    Advice to Management

You've tied your future to building the pre-eminent platform for the entire industry. Just do it and keep your focus. Don't be distracted by the demands of legacy customers who aren't buying into your vision. It's hard turning away immediate revenue opportunities, but you need to take the long view. Have confidence in your vision.

    Pros

Friendly people made the work day go by quickly. Cutting edge products kept the company relevant. The new office was very nice

    Cons

Management was a mess and layoffs were a constant fear. CEO finally resigned after years of poor performance. Pay was not very good

    Advice to Management

Allow managers the ability to manage without clunky review and performance software. Cross train warehouse staff so people could take days off

I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There is still a bit of caché in the brand. But not enough to make up for the target on your back when out and among industry professionals. Or even with media creation enthusiasts. Avid is the company its end users love to hate.

    Cons

Each successive executive management team has all the answers. Which mostly add up to paying themselves more while the stock price plunges. It's nice work if you can get it, I suppose. The current CEO may have an interesting vision, but not the team to pull it off. There are too many smug industry outsiders with all the wrong answers (along with a few industry old timers with absolutely no answers). If it weren't...
