I have been working at Avid Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great, dedicated workers. Interesting product ideas.

    Cons

Too many VPs and Senior Managers who get inb the way of a great company. Avid is too worried about Wall Street, and commits "unnatural business acts" as a result.

    Advice to Management

Fire most of yourselves and put the decisions in the hands of the bright engineers!

I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great colleagues who are passionate about video and audio. Awesome products that do make life easier for customers across both audio and video.

    Cons

Poor executive management that thinks they are better than the rank and file. Big company mentality with excessive focus on process that rarely yielded results. Management created unnecessary amount of stress.

I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There is still a bit of caché in the brand. But not enough to make up for the target on your back when out and among industry professionals. Or even with media creation enthusiasts. Avid is the company its end users love to hate.

    Cons

Each successive executive management team has all the answers. Which mostly add up to paying themselves more while the stock price plunges. It's nice work if you can get it, I suppose. The current CEO may have an interesting vision, but not the team to pull it off. There are too many smug industry outsiders with all the wrong answers (along with a few industry old timers with absolutely no answers). If it weren't...

    Advice to Management

Apologize to current and former customers and employees and devote yourselves to a life of service to humanity in atonement for your many acts of selfish stupidity.

I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The customers: creative people, wide variety of markets / applications, constant change. Products: world class, proven, award winning.

    Cons

Highly political organization. Lotta "survivors"with very little risk taking. Consistently weak leadership as multiple generations of management have proven their lack of market insight or knowledge. They've been selling to the very same set of customers, with practically the same solutions, for over 10 years....in some sense, for the past 25 years.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to develop new customers or develop new solutions to sell to existing customers. Trust and encourage folks to speak out and be open from change emitting from below. Get close to the folks who you are NOT selling too, who have left, or who have never owned Avid gear.

    Pros

Great products (or did have once upon a time) in audio, music, video. Talented and enthusiastic people with interest in (and experience) in arts and media

    Advice to Management

go manage something that doesn't require an understanding of creative professionals

I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Seems the workers keep carrying on tirelessly despite the series of disastrous decisions made by the Management which included ludicrous company acquisitions one after another. New CEO seems to be very interested in turning the ship around but its still early days for him.

    Cons

The Series of Management who seem to regard the company as their own gravy train, keep awarding themselves stock options and who often hire inexperienced buddies as Managers who don't know the technology, the domain or how to manage people. Continuous pressure from above for more and more product releases in time for annual trade shows to distract from the state of the company and push this or that product not realising...

    Advice to Management

(1.) Use the current fair winds such as the move to 4K to bolster your war chest, get your finances and house in order and then consider splitting video part of the company from the audio part into two Companies. (2.) More cloud based software on a subscription model. (3.) Look more closely at the levels of Management - which ones are the ones generating/supporting new customers and product sales, which ones are creating...

I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Widely used products in high end Video and Audio markets.

    Cons

Lack of innovative ideas - stagnant management - endless committees - slow to make decisions - poor leadership - no vision - dependent on legacy reputation - too many layers of bureaucracy... I could go on...

I have been working at Avid Technology full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Unique amalgamation of video and audio markets and products offer expansive and diverse areas to develop.

    Cons

Structure and processes not as robust as larger companies as Avid goes through growing (and shrinking) pains thus one has to be somewhat self-sufficient and to take on tasks outside those defined as specific job roles.

    I worked at Avid Technology

    Pros

Good products, very knowledgeable staff, still has some leading products. Benefits in line with industry. Chance to work with some great customers

    Cons

Management is out of touch, poor employee relationships, lack of respect for employees, products are becoming old technology, bit of a dinosaur syndrome, company has a "lack of will" to bring about a paradigm shift in thinking

    Advice to Management

Take the lead, stop the politics, bring out the next generation of products fast, stop playing in areas you cannot compete in
