I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

For years Avid has been one of the best places to work for an engineer. The projects were (and really still are) exciting, the film and television market place is interesting and the management was knowledgeable.

    Cons

Since the change in upper management, Avid has become a terrible place for an engineer. They are now tracking software engineers by how many lines of code you check in, which is totally the wrong thing to measure. The CEO stands up and says everything is great and everyone pop champagne. A few weeks later another round of layoffs. Avid has consistently laid off the best of the...

I worked at Avid Technology full-time

    Pros

Some great people to work with, flexible hours, and cool products, especially if you're a musician.

    Cons

Compared to Silicon Valley companies, they were fairly low on perks. Career growth seemed difficult and upper management seemed poor. I know someone who has been there for quite a while and has not been promoted or been given decent wage increases to combat the ever increasing cost of living in the bay area. I was in a town hall meeting once where an upper manager was basically...

I have been working at Avid Technology full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Avid has some of the most outstanding engineers and technology.

    Cons

Upper management is poor at best. I've been there over 10 years and have watched one CEO after another lead the company in crazy directions.

    Advice to Management

I have no idea the direction of the company. We're offshoring engineering and support and never hire anyone in the US. There's only a concern about the quarterly results and near impossible demands are placed on employees. Management seems completely confused as to why the company is in the state it is and no understanding on how to fix it.

I worked at Avid Technology for more than 5 years

    Pros

Avid was made up of very talented people who had a passion for the product. It was a very creative environment for a long time. It was at one time a great place to work - sorry, finding it hard to find anything 'pro' about Avid anymore.

    Cons

Upper management is money hungry and led by a self-absorbed CEO. His ego is in the way of allowing Avid to ever recover. He's more interested in the next house he's buying than the health of the business.

    Advice to Management

The Board needs to wake up and get rid of the Chairman of the Board (aka CEO)!!! He has destroyed what was left of Avid when he came on board 4 years ago.

I worked at Avid Technology full-time

    Pros

Flexible working hours, remote work from home opportunity. Really great coworkers. Understanding middle management. Really reasonable pay and benefits. Good product

    Cons

Upper management was clueless and brought the company down with poor direction. Too much big Corp mindset. No advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the engineers and the customers. Don't cut corners in the product to save dollars. Better products always win over cheaper production.

I have been working at Avid Technology full-time

      Pros

      Cool products and flexible schedules

      Cons

There have been so many layoffs and restructuring no one knows who to go to. There is very little trust of upper management.

      Advice to Management

Get someone in upper management that knows and cares about hardware. Hire people with a passion for the products

I worked at Avid Technology for more than 8 years

        Pros

The employees are very talented and hardworking people who are in the trenches every day.

        Cons

Upper management is very top heavy. There are too many channels you need to go through to share ideas and gets things approved that greatly hinder progress. Internal communication is very poor. Low employee morale

        Advice to Management

over communicate as best you can. Be open to seeking out and receiving feedback / opinions from your employees and show them they're appreciated

I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

There are a few dedicated employees left who care about Avid products and put customers first.

        Cons

Since 2008, Avid has been on a steady decline and have lost their way in a marketplace where they were once dominant. Attrition has been high every year since then (cost cutting through many layoffs) and the company has let go many entertainment industry experts who knew the market needs and how to make a good product. Completely inept CEO and upper management do not know the...

        Pros

Good attempts at new technology to break out of stagnant legacy market

        Cons

Over-reaching goals. Upper management more intent on new offices than getting the business done. Deep layoffs, no replacements.
