    Great product, lots of demo gear

    Cons

    Upper management does not value employees. Constant turnover. Culture of fear, unless you suck up to and are friends with your boss.

    Advice to Management

    Value employees instead of creating a "good ole boy" environment.

    I worked at Avigilon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Not much other than some nice and very smart people. Innovative products.

    Cons

    You will work very hard, long hours to achieve little to no recognition, praise or even thank you. However, they are quick point out mistakes to lower level employees yet, management can make NONE. Ever heard the term "trial by Fire"? There's no coaching or mentoring. They only point out mistakes as your fault without them showing you how to do it right the first time. You are left to your own devices and get a slap... on the hand when you've done something wrong, no comment when you've done something right. They will hire your replacement right in front of you and make you train them. Then let you go saying you are unfit after working for them for more than a year. You would think any concerns or issues would be addressed with your manager but they don't listen or provide feedback because they are waiting to be told what to do just like everyone else. They highly discriminate simply because they don't "like" you or you won't engage in their petty conversations not pertaining to work. There are a lot of big salaries walking around that don't seem like they are earning their paycheck. Management is clueless since they are promoted from within with No people management experience. No interdepartmental collaboration because everyone is afraid of loosing their job. Doesn't look like this culture of "fear" is going to change anytime soon. Run and don't look back!

    Talented skilled co-workers in non-executive positions to work with

    Cons

    Senior team manifest a culture of fear and blame which tends to cascade down to people on the floor doing work. Not a constructive environment especially in operations where most people seem scared and unhappy.

    I worked at Avigilon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    There are some competent people in engineering. Close quarters and frequent interaction between members of a team results in a lot of coworker bonding. The team dynamic between people who aren't managers is good.

    Cons

    When people are fired, they "dissapear" with a half assed explanation, like the KGB. Leaders in engineering who were the most capable either left or we're fired for political reasons. Morale is low as a result of this culture of fear (if X can be fired when they worked for 11 hours a day and knew everything, anyone can be fired). Hiring practices are increasingly suspect as quality of new hires is generally... decreasing. As capable middle managers left, they were replaced with less capable yes men who are in over their heads. Perks are pitiful for a software engineering company, and pay is equally sad - based on politics not performance. CEO used to seem competent, but has slowly become stupidly cutthroat. What happens to morale when you hold multiple meetings telling people "don't dissent if you don't like things here, just leave. This is a dictatorship". Verbatim. Company does not care about engineering, and that is reflected in their mismanagement of the developers and the amount they allocate to R&D.

    If you want any chance of salvaging the reputation of this company, you need to realize that hiring quality people and actually caring about them is the only way to really motivate and keep talent.

    Pros

    Great teams and smart, innovative people that work well together. My team especially is great to work with. A very good place to begin a career as the general chaos (well described in other reviews) creates opportunities to excel in opportunities they may not be otherwise afforded in larger companies. Fruit is good as the other reviews state. Office is beautiful, downtown and close to stadiums and restaurants.... New building is coming, could potentially be a downgrade in working area but still centrally located. Designers are given freedom and room to innovate. Company events like Hackathons are interesting and keep people engaged. Social committee events are actually pretty fun and fairly frequent. Great for newcomers to the city.

    Cons

    There is absolutely a cascading culture of fear descending from the top down. HR department is essentially non-existent and what is there isn't taken seriously as we are sure it will be "refreshed" again eventually. Product related decisions are occasionally baffling and seem to lack foresight and proper planning leading to "refresh" bandaids. Plenty of good, talented, hard working and well liked people let go... for politics alone. There is more turnover than you expect - even after reading these reviews. Limited upward mobility. Morale has decreased as the company has grown and priority shifts toward legal endeavours rather than innovation.

    I have been working at Avigilon full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Nothing can make up for the cons. Nice premises, free coffee. Some people trying to do the right thing. Some very smart employees. Perfect ground for recruiters, everyone wants out.

    Cons

    Culture of fear stems from the CEO down. Senior people afraid to make decisions. CEO needs to control and find blame. Other people behave the same to survive in that horrible culture. Use of foul language and finger pointing is rampant. No real HR. Employees are disposable. Do NOT work there. They offer more money than others to lure candidates, it is NOT worth it.

    Advice to Management

    CEO needs to step down and attend counselling. Board needs to smarten up. Share price will keep dropping if no one has anything good to say.

    Pros

    It had a great beginning and had a hopeful future. Good people among the ranks (senior manager level and below).

    Cons

    Culture of fear - initiated, nurtured and encouraged by the C-level Strategy is not communicated to the company - no one knows where we are going All other leaders won't make any decisions without the COO or CTO approval - even simple ones; other EVPs, SVPs, VPs are ineffective "yes men" Growing base in Dallas is confusing to all employees - why buy an decrepit building in Vancouver when the growth seems to be... happening in the Dallas office and the employee turn over is high in Vancouver Takes forever to fill vacant positions - we are short staffed in all areas - moving people around from team to team to get projects done (robbing Peter to pay Paul) Product quality and new product development is being sacrificed (because of above situation) C-level does not engage with employees - we are a necessary evil Stock options are non-existent - and those that had them were fired and had their options stripped away Internal social activities are being eliminated Benefits plan is mediocre Very little promotion from within HR leadership is not trustworthy No annual performance reviews - so no one knows how they are doing CEO hires private investigators to follow ex-employees to make sure they don't talk to "the enemies" (former employees have posted pictures of private investigators vehicles parked outside their houses) A lot of fellow employees looking for other jobs - going to be a ghost town soon

    Advice to Management

    Board of Directors or CEO: Please bring in some EXPERIENCED executives. At this point in the company's life - the C-level should be seasoned executives that have run or grown $200M companies into billion $ companies. Not installers promoted up through the ranks because of their initial investments or tenure. No one has any respect for some of the current C-level occupants who have locked themselves behind 2 sets of... new security doors - where only they have access. What happened to open door policy of today's executives. Employees are not happy and are going to leave in droves soon.
