I have been working at Avis Budget Group as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Low start up cost and good entry level business experience.

    Cons

    Very poor work/life balance.
As a contractor You will be working 7days/week until You are successful enough to hire employees. Even then because of only 12% commission You are able to hire so many associates/managers that would allow You to step away from the business.. In reality - unless You have multiple (more than 3) stores and a good manager working for You - You are going to be constantly working.
Poor fleet management by the company. Not enough cars in peak season.
Too many corporate managers vs producers.

    Advice to Management

Treat Your people well and give operators more commision to hire help so they can devote their attention to growing the business vs being caught in daily operations and redundant reports etc.. Give Operators ability to participate group plans with medical insurance or at least work out a good discount with major carriers. Recognize the hard work operators are doing going above and beyond to keep the clients happy.

I have been working at Avis Budget Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Opportunity for overtime, nice garden

    Cons

The office itself is not cleaned well.
no opportunity to gain knowledge at all after a certain point. Some of the line managers are unfortunately not open for people who wish to complete more in their carrier than only doing one task.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attantion to the needs of your employee and challange their skills.

I worked at Avis Budget Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Pay
    - Benefits
    - Plenty of advancement opportunities

    Cons

    - Company culture: Teamwork is non-existent here. Everything is gloom and doom even when things are going well. Upper Management does not care about improving processes and making things more efficient.

Upper Management: Out of touch with what the real issues are and never actually develops action plans that fix problems. They would rather treat the symptoms than get to the root of the problem. They give you pointless tasks that need to be completed immediately even when it's busy, yet complain when your original tasks are not completed,

    - High turnover: Was understaffed while I was there and had us doing the work of 2 or 3 people. They constantly lied and told us they were hiring people but month after month nothing changed. How can you be in a hiring freeze when your understaffed and peak season is approaching? Made no sense but they constantly told us they were hiring people only to come back and say they were in a hiring freeze.

    - Work life balance: Being an operations center they are open everyday outside of New Years Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. This would not be a problem if they were staffed fully but becomes one when they have you working 48-56 hours a week and no overtime.

    - Our desktops were 10+ years old and it showed. I had used those same models when I was in high school several years prior.

    Advice to Management

    - Encourage and value employees' input
    - Do more to show you appreciate the hard work your employees' do
    - Be committed to change

    Cons

    Poor managementry
The pay doesn't make up for the work you have to do

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, raise the hourly pay for working in +100 degree weather. 11.50 isnt worth working in those conditions.

I have been working at Avis Budget Group (Less than a year)

    Pros

Little supervision once you receive training
The people you work with are great
Able to gain experience in the car rental industry

    Cons

The company is going downhill, losing money every month. Therefore, they have been gutting departments with layoffs every couple of weeks.

Insufficient pay for a corporate job

Management is more than happy to take most of the work, leaving you with little to nothing to do certain months.

Management also loves to keep everything about the company's fiscal situation a secret, leaving most people in the office worried about layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Keep your employees more engaged and in the loop of things. Don't hire people without telling them how badly the company is doing if you're just going to lay them off within a year. If you're looking to cut costs, don't drop 30 million on a project and expect to do better
