I worked at Avis Budget Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a stable job with plenty of hours, reasonable pay and benefits. There are opportunities to move up but they are not as appealing as that seem at first.

    Cons

All scheduling is done by seniority thus making a balance of work and home life hard to accomplish until you've been around a few years. The structure of commissions means that the counter employees with seniority will almost always take the shifts with the best opportunities to earn more money and you may get stuck on graveyard shift for a year or more.

    Advice to Management

Pay night shift and slower shift employees a little more to help them cope with less opportunity for sales commissions.

    Pros

You can wear shorts during the summer

    Cons

I worked for Budget Car & Truck Rental of Wichita and this is by far the worst run company I have ever worked for. First of all, training was basically non-existent. You get about two weeks of working with someone then you are turned loose to work on your own at one of the local market offices. Secondly, they used technology from the early 2000s. The program they used for the car rental process was severely outdated and they use a dot matrix printer for the truck rental contracts. You typically work by yourself for eleven hours a day with typically only about 4-5 rentals a day yet they wanted you to stay busy throughout the day. They wouldn't allow books/magazines, laptops or cell phones to keep you from going completely nuts with boredom. The cars they offered were nice but they never had the cars that customers booked. The majority of the time we had to give upgrades to sports cars and SUV's when people usually just wanted something cheap with good gas mileage. This lead to a lot of unhappy customers because they rarely got the car they wanted.

    Advice to Management

Step into the 21st century with your business model and stop trying to rely on what worked in the 90's. Upgrade your technology, have cars that customers want, not cars you can make money off of when you resell them. Allow your employees to make decisions without checking with management on every little issue. Take the side of the employee on some occasions and not always take the customer's side. The customer is not ALWAYS right.

    Cons

Virtually no support from the company itself. Poorly ran strategically.

I worked at Avis Budget Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Cant really think of any.

    Cons

Avis/Budget ALWAYS takes the customer's side. They demand high sales and have strict rules in place that almost set you up for an argument with the customer. Of course, I dont blame the customer, who will get mad at the policy and take it out on you, the employee. When the 1800 customer service gets wind, you as the employee will get in trouble for backing avis and budget policies.

    Advice to Management

If you demand stellar sales and customer service, pay better than minimum wage. There is a reason turn over is so high here. Invest in your employees.
