I worked at Avon Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Have venture capital money funding the company.

    Cons

Leadership with no beauty industry experience. Want to run like a start-up or entrepreneurial environment but all top management is from HUGE pharma companies. Set up to run and fail like a behemouth.

    Advice to Management

Don't run yourself like a CPG or Pharma company. You are not going to get positive change with theoretical plans based on data, analysis and words - listen to your reps and to your hired experts.

I worked at Avon Products full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I love the products. We would receive samples of the new items before they are available to be able to test and demonstrate it.
Up until the most recent position changes, I enjoyed the flexibility.

    Cons

After eliminating over half of the district manager positions, of those that were selected to move forward, they were given a larger area to cover and the demand was higher however; the pay was not worth the increase of work.

    Advice to Management

When you ask for feedback or ideas, give some kind of acknowledgement that it's been received and make an effort to do something about it.

I have been working at Avon Products full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay (not great not awful), great coworkers in R&D, you learn a lot in a short period of time. Good benefits. Overall R&D is a pretty good place to work.

    Cons

Volatile working place. Lay offs are roughly annual and R&D is already short staffed so we are overworked, some people doing multiple peoples' worth of work. Suffern is also a small village so there is not much to do outside of work for fun.

    Advice to Management

Increase transparency from senior management to lower associates.
It's impossible to retain talent if associates are overworked and underpaid.

I have been working at Avon Products full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Worked daily to empower women.

    Cons

I was not empowered, forced to work extremely long hours without fair compensation to achieve goals, kpis and bonuses. The representatives were always more important than Avon employees, we were never empowered, but bullied constantly to perform and achieve aggressive plans. I had to do this or we were threatened to be fired. Bonuses were hard to come by because Avon could never fully fill representatives orders, therefore leading to sales shortages and resulting in bottom line losses in plans.

    Advice to Management

Review how much money is being lost each quarter as a result of short ships. Appreciate talent and allow them the opportunity to grow and evolve to the new company Avon needs to be.
