I worked at Avue Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, when and if they pay you.

    Cons

Taking more than 2 months just to pay its employees and making the excuse that it's the government's fault, just a bunch of bs.

Makes the employees wait so long for a paycheck.

"DON'T WORK HERE, YOU WILL BE GLAD I TOLD YOU SO"

    Advice to Management

If you can't pay your employee's then stop running the company.

    Pros

Rate of pay was good, if they actually bothered to pay you.

    Cons

It took them 2 months to give me my first paycheck.
They still owe me 1 to 2 checks that were never paid.
Most of the employees that were there when I was there quit because no one other than the CEO was getting paid

    Advice to Management

Pay your people, on time and in full!

I worked at Avue Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Industry appropriate pay. Good benefits sans 401K. On the same block with two bars. You'll need them both.

    Cons

I've never felt so unappreciated. You're treated like chattel. Managed (and micro-managed) by fear. Mid managers are under such pressure they are in constant CYA mode, and passing that along to the rank-and-file.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the business. Take your money (it is all you care about anyway) and go live a nice life.

I worked at Avue Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive pay and benefits, when the pay is actually paid.

    Cons

Top managers had very little regard for employees' personal lives.. Reimbursements for travel in the thousands of $ in expenses often went unpaid for many months.. Horrible communication from the top to employees (like when travel reimbursements would be paid) and apparently little interest in communication up. The only employees who really knew where they stood were the ones who were summarily terminated. Poor management resulted in constant scrambling from crisis to crisis. There seemed to be a lack of understanding at the top how to listen to customers and address their needs. It was apparent when I left that the company wasn't doing well and it appears that the decline continues. You'd never know how grim things are by looking at their web site or press releases.

    Advice to Management

If you're still in business, hire and listen to some professional managers and start listening to your employees and customers. Paying and reimbursing your employees should be one of your top priorities and any delays should be explained.

I worked at Avue Technologies full-time

    Pros

It's very close to Galanga Thai Cuisine. Health insurance (including dental and vision) was fully paid for and surprisingly decent. People who experience trauma together can become best friends.

    Cons

Absolute micromanagement hell. Priorities change as the wind blows. Megalomaniacal management (and they're proud of that). Technologically clueless. You will not see your family or friends. You will have scheduled time off and holidays cancelled at the last minute. You will not get reimbursed for travel and hotel stay. You will get reamed if dare take or make a personal call after you've walked in the door. You may wonder what it'd be like to jump off the roof.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Avue Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pays well for a first job, get to work with lots of talented developers, a good sense of camaraderie between the devs, very convenient if you live in the Tacoma area.

    Cons

Very chaotic and ultra fast paced. No real training on the company product. No development methodology in place.

    Advice to Management

Implement/adopt a software development methodology so your talented developers have an opportunity to write solid code.

Ramp up new developers and provide training on the product they are supposed to be working on.

Hire a project manager and plan projects (provide development specifications/documentation).

    Use Jira.

Don't expend valuable development resources and brain power on a feature that you think the customer might like to see in a demo (i.e. no gold-plating).

Don't release functionality for public consumption until it's at least somewhat finished/working/stable.

    Have developers work in teams.

    Pros

Avue has good benefits for their employees (health care). Good location (downtown Tacoma). That's really all there is positive to say about the company...

    Cons

Low pay, long hours, no room for advancement. Management sells their products before they actually exist or based on screenshots so developers are forced to work unpaid overtime to add the functionality. There is no consistency in the code base (see spaghetti code). The worst part about the company is they have no respect for their employees and treat them like expendable work horses.

    Advice to Management

A little respect goes a long way. Hire good developers, pay them well, don't overwork them and give them the opportunity to write good code.

    Pros

Good benefits - fully paid insurance for employee and family with a good insurance company and plan. Decent salary - good considering the job market in this industry.

    Cons

Lack of job security, no regard for personal time when the company is on a deadline. Last year we missed the memorial day holiday because of a mandatory company deadline - with NO notice and regard to family time. When you turn in notice to leave the company you will be promptly escorted to the door. Not a secure environment.

    Advice to Management

Treat you employees better, PLAN projects and estimates before committing to a client, do not waste time on demos that go nowhere.

    Pros

Medical Coverage, Two Weeks Vacation, Free Booze (with management team!)

    Cons

Often owed money to employees for travel, medical coverage cancelled for non-payment, upper management clique-ish, long hours, excessive travel time

    Advice to Management

Pay for your employees back for travel, people should not work to pay for work expenses.
    Start respecting your staff!
