I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Every other Friday off! Other benefits are okay for a starting job. The 401k isn't bad at a 6% match. Health insurance is decent. Pays for continued schooling! Corporate discounts and events. A lot of opportunity for advancement. Employee organizations. Can change roles often. Managers are supportive. Gym in most facilities, but can not use work hours to stay fit and healthy. Room for growth.

    Cons

Cubical environment. Working from home is allowed, but not often and frowned upon. Vacation is accruing meaning for the first you can't take vacation if you want to be able to take the most hours next year. Company is old. Contracted job so you "salary" doesn't really mean "salary". Have to preform 40 hours a week and record your hours that you actually "worked". People are nice, but defined line between co-workers and "friends". Work environments are depressing and old. Many people dread coming into work. Leaving your desk to walk for 3 mins is 3mins more you have to stay at work. Most eat lunch at their desks. Decreasing benefits. Encouragement from other employees who are not managers or HR to leave the company if young.

    Advice to Management

Make the environments more innovated for a "innovation company". Promote flexible schedules so people aren't rushing to leave and are angry to be at work. Forces more on the entire company rather then those at the top who have offices, bonuses, and excess amount of vacation.

I worked at BAE Systems USA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are bright dedicated folks that work at BAE and the company has a wide range of service / product offerings.

    Cons

Advancement opportunities extremely limited for those Program Managers that are actively engaged with Customers and not able to devote considerable time to internal company meetings in person on a regular basis.

    Advice to Management

Look for ways to include Senior Program Managers and Program Directors who actively support customers without compromising the customer delivery to participate in corporate development and leadership opportunities. Alternatively open up a career track for senior program management that is primarily engaged with the customer on a day to day basis ( in other words relief from the at least 95 % utilization is DL) In order to develop these highly qualified folks into leadership roles need to accommodate a different utilization goal.

    Pros

Company stresses integrity, ethical behavior, safety. Benefits are good, management listens to suggestions.

    Cons

The business model is changing for their customer, so much more difficult to retain staff.

    Advice to Management

Need to employ more women in senior positions.
