    Pros

    Cons

-Salary is very low compared to other jobs with the same function in other companies in the city. -Incompetent leaders -Most of the leaders do not care about developing their people -Leaders are not open at all to new ideas or approaches. They prefer to do everything in the same way or in the most bureaucratic possible way. -More and more they are hiring more non-German speaker people but they have not adjusted...

    Advice to Management

Improve the selection process/Performance management of leaders within the company. A good leader is more than speaking good German and be able to smile to people.

I worked at BASF full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good reputation, professional, stable company, good people

    Cons

The company has a German management style, which is mostly micromanagement. This stalls progress and hinders ideas to bloom. People work hard, but you wonder whether they work on the right thing, or whether it is just another feasibility study to make sure you won't get told off for doing something too bold. A lot of people have no mojo; they're just doing their jobs to get their pay checks.

    Advice to Management

Give opportunities for people to follow bold ideas without going through project teams and three managemnet levels for approval. Provide vision and live a strong purpose that can re-energize your employees

I have been working at BASF full-time

    Pros

Development stated as a core and there are programs to voice out or support. You get to work on international project with international teams with tons of BASF experience and loyalty. This from people that have come to terms with no development chances.

    Cons

Development of mostly EU (German) colleauges historically accomplished first before international. Tons of inbreeding in broken units...the people that were supposed to fix and keep things running are often promoted into the same departments that caused the problem.

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing the same...perhaps you learn when young and mid-career people find work in other companies OR if mid-manager start their own business to offer the service that you just outsourced.

    Pros

Well established and well known organization. Global player in Chemical Industry. Diversified business portfolio providing various career opportunities including international assignment. Friendly and down-to-earth working culture with focus on business ethics.

    Cons

Not market/ customer-oriented. Hierarchical and slow in decision-making. Not dynamic enough to respond timely to market changes. Too complicated in the organizations which affect efficiency. Top management are still "German-centric".

    Advice to Management

Be more open and fast to make decision for better business performance and survival. Reduce complexity and projects while dedicating more resources on basic business activities. Treasure employee while really acquiring and developing the right talents.
