    I worked at BB&T full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is decent, work facilities are ok.

    Cons

Upper management are deceitful, and do not allow for independent thinkers. Regional and Senior Managers are very petty and fragile if you happen to disagree with their positions.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of some of the Regional Managers that have been there more than 5 years. Be more inclusive and get more minorities in Senior positions.

    I worked at BB&T part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

While being a larger bank, BB&T does make an effort to support and take care of even part time employees by including regular benefits. BB&T's management does attempt to make an effort to keep employees informed and educated to best handle their roles.

    Cons

Many employees complained on the retail side that moving up from retail positions can sometimes be a daunting task. Vacation seemed to be tough earned like most financial institutions.

    Advice to Management

My best recommendation on the retail side would be to use regional retail managers to listen and attempt to solve many of the local issues from their respective branches. It seemed that some branches were operating incredibly well while others were facing serious problems. These were typically due to lacking effective management of human or operating resources.

    I worked at BB&T part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Bank hours and holidays, closed Saturday and Sunday, Benefits from Day 1, and easy to learn systems for the most part.

    Cons

Inexperienced management, grossly understaffed, high turnover, security risks, and antiquated technology which forced us to use long processes to do simple tasks. Also, bank charges a ton of fees, which were hard to justify to clients who held a lot of money with us.

    Advice to Management

Probably a good bank to work for in other areas, but the region I was in was so understaffed that it overshadowed every other aspect of the job. Extremely high turnover rates (and just a general reluctance to hire more people) caused us to be unable to take vacations, and on a regular basis we had to work with only two people in the bank at a time. This was very stressful considering we did not have security officers. On a few occasions I even had to work all day without a lunch break because there was no float tellers available to cover when people were out. Really ridiculous for a top 10 bank. It was off-putting to clients too, we regularly would be unable to do wires or in house loans because of management not being present due to them being responsible for more than one branch at a time.

I have been working at BB&T full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay is solid from what I can tell
Some of the benefits are good
Depending on your manager, work schedule is flexible on the IT side of the house

    Cons

Specific to the IT side of the house:
    - Advancement is difficult as decisions on promotions are extremely subjective
    - Strategically, it can be tough to determine how your work in IT impacts overall Business
    - Medical benefits are very expensive for the family plans
    - Don't usually promote from within

    Advice to Management

    - Identify key performance idicators for the LoB, and work backwards from there to help employee understand how what they are doing is adding value. It could also help to identify unnecessary work.

    Pros

Salary is above average for smaller bank. Benefits are amazing with a Pension. Matching 401k 100% of 6%. Healthcare premiums are super low compared to what I am used to. Definitely opportunities to advance. You get vested into pension after 5 years. Calculation for pension payout is your highest salary average over 5 years times your years of service times 1.5%.
Ex. 100,000 x 35yrs x 1.5%= $52,500 paid to you every year when you retire.

    Cons

Smaller banks have less foot traffic. Unless you like sitting at your desk looking at your computer all day. Tough to make sales goals when no one walks into your branch.

    Advice to Management

    None right now

    Cons

Poor communication with management, high turnover, short staffed.

    Advice to Management

Market leaders should have more responsibility and there work should be monitored more closely.
