I worked at BB&T full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great team to work, even visits with the VP's from NC were awesome. Super friendly employees, job pace was decent and quality of career life was wonderful! I'd work for them again!

    Cons

Took away sales incentives, sales goals were kind of extreme at times, sales calls were brutal.

    Advice to Management

Shift your focus from all sales, to employees and clients.

I have been working at BB&T for more than 8 years

    Pros

401k The potential of free health insurance for yourself Average vacation plan Sick days are treated differently than PTO

    Cons

Sales goals are almost unreachable for everyone starting 2019 Branch Bankers are expected to do 90% of branch goals Required to submit vacation request a month in advance

    Advice to Management

Ive been with the bank almost a decade and it has changed from truly helping each client with there needs to basically turning into Wells Fargo undercover in terms of pressure from upper management in almost unreachable sale goals and numbers that Branch Bankers need to meet. BB&T used be fair with there goals but all of the sudden they changed over night in 2019. BB&T used to retain a lot of high values employees but now the turn over is high with an already limited staff of day to day operations. Managers are always out doing “business calls” daily but only a select few actually bring back business to the branch. BB&T should hold there Branch Manager accountable more just like Branch Bankers when not meeting goals. Branch Managers are fast to blame Branch Bankers for not meeting productivity goals.

    Pros

Very Small organization of less then 350 Financial Advisors so you have access to the top of the management chain if needed. Small organization feel with great flexibility. Pension. Good name brand with great reputation in Banking.

    Cons

They promote based on Politics and nothing more. If you come in to the training program out of college you will be given a free pass. Antiquated programs that other firms abandoned long ago they keep pumping money in to hoping for a different result. Bankers who they dub Financial advisors with no experince who don't have any idea how to give impartial advice because they are driven by product sales goals and push high cost services other firms offer for free. They don't reward drive and motivation to succeed and prefer you be a robot and stay in your lane. If you try to stand out and do more that will get you called out for being different. The most important metrics for a Financial advisor are over shadowed by the Banks VERY heavy hand pushing to sell products to pay for bad investments it made. The WORST technology in the business, how can you call yourself an expert in the Stock market when you don't offer Real Time quotes to the Advisors because "it costs too much"??? Lastly and possibly most important NO Diversity its a very Old southern bank...no desire to change that toxic culture unless they can profit from appearing to want change. Minorities with talent leave the bank for more diverse opportunities as soon as they can because they know they have little opportunity there.

    Advice to Management

CEO needs to ask why in 2018 you have lost a huge amount of top talent! Promote and support the guys who are hungry and want to be the Best and stop rewarding the people who do the bare minimum but keep their head down. Get rid of the guys who are disconnected with where the industry is going and living in the past. Offer a path to growing in the company vs only having a choice to leave the firm. Be competitive with compensation with the guys you want to compete with not just who you do compete with now. Hire people who think outside of the box and don't look just like every other manager you have.
