    Pros

No taxation of the salary. Flexible working hours. Rare meetings which, this gives a lot of time for preparation. Additional 5000 for lab or conferences expenditure.

    Cons

Hard life and work balance as usually you need to work over time without any compensations. A lot of time is spent writing.

    Advice to Management

Should consider managing and overlooking what universities do with their money, because some universities don't hire PhD students in a way that was predetermined

    I worked at BBSRC full-time

    Pros

Good focus on development and worklife balance. Access to training built and encouraged in all job roles as well as focus on employee wellbeing.

    Cons

As with any Civil service type employment some people in position due more to time served than ability, can lead to a dead mans shoes situation and some unmotivated employees staying in post due to pension considerations.

    Advice to Management

Continue as is, very good employer. Need to be aware however that career paths are now inter organisational and therefore turnover not only expected but healthy.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

    People are friendly
    Work is interesting
    Good work/life balance

    Cons

Too bureaucratic and stuffy - there are constantly forms to fill in, procedures to be followed, rules to be obeyed
Very hierachical, and everyone has to know their place
The constant striving for 'robustness' can lead to pressure and criticism, and means job security is not as good as you might expect

    Advice to Management

Be more relaxed, and give your employees more freedom.
