    Pros

    good benefits. not much else.

    Cons

too many to list. you dont want to work in retail here.

    Advice to Management

Identify your talent and incentivize them to stay. Don't treat your employees on the front line like sheep. Give raises to people who deserve them. Overhaul incentive plan for retail employees--$2k/year max is garbage.

I have been working at BBVA Compass full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are just average for Birmingham

    Cons

Managers are frequently inexperienced in managing people or refuse to deal with employee issues. hiring and retention appears to be more concerned with the diversity of the workforce rather than the performance of the workforce. Bank does not consider people management experience at other companies to be of any value or count toward consideration when applying as an internal candidate for bank management jobs. Their are managers in VP and SVP positions who are barely or not qualified for their jobs. And some just plain don't want to work.

    Advice to Management

Make managers do the people management part of their job, give proper consideration to internal and external candidates and their total qualifications, for management positions, rather than letting diversity or friendship considerations be the deciding factor. Hold all employees to the same performance standards without regard to race or gender. If you are a non-Spanish white guy over 50, you pretty much are pigeonholed for your time here.

I have been working at BBVA Compass full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are OK. A lot of managers are very fair with treatment and hours worked outside of business hours , compensating them and granting time for personal affairs and appointments. You learn new technologies and methodologies. Ok oportunities to grow.

    Cons

Everybody is a manager and a boss. Processes are convoluted and what it is depends on who you ask and what day it is. You have to deal with people who take it upon themselves to put you down with backhanded comments. The company promotes an environment of cooperation and teamwork, but , the implementation from managers in key areas is not there. Backhanded and out of place comments are a natural daily occurence that you either have to deal with or be out the door.
It is a very stressfull environment for those people that actually work. If you demonstrate you are competant they will milk you and the person who is not doing anything can continue to not do anything or care regardless.

    Advice to Management

Tighten up your employees work ethic or people who actually want to work will loose any and all motivation to actually do so.
Spend a day in a lower level employees shoes and see the leaps people have to go through to get anything done.
Take some time and actually define processes and do not leave it up to a group that depending on the day of the week or hour of day defines a different process each time. The amount of productive time and money inaction causes on this front stacks up daily and is a complete waste everytime any process changes without communication. Things have to get redone or adapted to every few weeks or days.
Try and find a connection with lower level employees and understand their concerns.

    Pros

Cannot think of any at the moment

    Cons

The individuals in my area appear to be very settled and comfortable in their roles. They are not looking for growth and advancement, which can rub off on others. The pay is not competitive as some of the other banks, such as Regions.

    Advice to Management

Offer better competitive pay to those with advance degrees.

I worked at BBVA Compass as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent open concept areas and diner for breakfast and lunches. Close to hip restaurants if you choose to eat out for lunch or want to grab a drink after work.

    Cons

ALOT of racial discrimination goes on and there is a noticeable 'buddy system'. Don't expect to climb any corporate ladder there. There is always a breakdown in communication happening with Management unwilling to take accountability. This company is far behind technically and does not have enough perks to keep up with the mainstream.
