I have been working at BCD Travel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company culture and travel benefits are great! Even if workload gets tough the day is still pleasant because of the type of people you work with. Having the option to work from home along with flexible management creates a great work life balance. Unfortunately, reviews of poor balance seem to come from call center type of roles, rather than corporate.

    Cons

Health insurance is on the skimpy side. Everything is so laid back that it can be too laid back sometimes. While there is strong senior leadership, team managers could be more hands on with mentoring & career development.

    Advice to Management

Great leaders create more great leaders. Invest time in career development.

    Pros

    Good work environment and people

    Cons

The pay is consistently below market rate.

Executive employees spend thousands and maybe millions in week-long company retreats and meetings across European countries that combine work and fun.

I cannot understand why a company would spend money and people’s time at such retreats and meetings. As an employee, I am not in the business of creating playful activities nor providing dinners at expensive European restaurants or focusing on things that don’t drive fundamental and objective productivity of the company. It's more like the executive staff are trying to find excuses to have some expendable vacation time.

The team members are adults with families and interacting (breakfast, lunch, and dinner for four nights) with other folks they usually wouldn’t spend time with is odd and a complete waste of company funds.

    Increase salary rates instead.

    Pros

    Culture, Manager, Reputation, Flexibility, Training

    Cons

Salary is way low, workload is high, and central support areas need overhaul

    Advice to Management

Be aware of market conditions - leaders work hard and are underpaid and benefits are only OK, not great

    Pros

Paid trainning, consistent hours, fun industry

    Cons

This is a sedentary desk job! You get in trouble even for standing up! If you can sit on your tush all day this job is for you.

    Advice to Management

Be more considerate to the health and well-being of your employees. Don't lie about the perks of the job (i.e. working from home, discounts, health benefits, flexible schedule).

I worked at BCD Travel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

BCD has a great vision of what they want to be and it shows at times. Decent pay, good benefits, fun activities, food on occasion, free training online (if you have time) and a few other pluses.

    Cons

If you are unlucky to get under poor management in a division that has a workload that is unreasonable, be ready for micromanagement and politics galore. Also inexperienced management will make the job miserable. Work extra hours with no gratitude, but get scolded for being 15 minutes late. Just a small example.

    Advice to Management

Make the BCD vision spill down to all divisions of the company and don't turn a blind eye to your employees at the bottom. You are losing loyal and hardworking employees because of bad supervisors who are out for themselves and do not know what they are doing. It is actually sad.
