I have been working at BDC Advisors full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Small firm with an entrepreneurial nature, though at this point there is an established track record. High responsibility and senior client interaction from day 1. As a private firm, decisions are made with the long-term in mind. People hired are "the best" and not simply brought on to try and hit hiring targets. While annual revenue goals are important, focus is less on 'quarterly numbers' and more on what is...

    Cons

Small firm, which has less infrastructure (i.e. there isn't a 10 person training department/marketing team/etc.). This is more self-guided and/or people wear multiple hats.

    Advice to Management

Work/life is always a challenge to balance in a consulting firm.

I have been working at BDC Advisors full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Firm size: I am always working with highly motivated individuals with decades of healthcare experience and have exposure to projects and clients that accelerates my professional growth much faster. Clients: we work with many of the country's largest academic medical centers on some of the most complex and challenging issues.

    Cons

Virtual firm: Though the firm is based in Miami, the majority of the staff above senior consultant level work remotely from around the country. Coordinating with them on projects is less of an issue when we are on the client site but is definitely something that takes getting used to. On-boarding: there is nothing formal compared to bigger firms but, the process is a continuously evolving and the most recent employees...

I have been working at BDC Advisors full-time for more than a year

    Pros

BDC lets you jump right into projects which allows you to get involved with the team and clients and learn quickly from everyone around you. I don't think I would have learned nearly as much in a hospital administration job, or even at a large consulting firm, as I did at BDC in the first year. Everyone's thoughts and opinions are valued - in fact, many senior people at the firm explicitly encourage new consultants to...

    Cons

As with any consulting firm, there is a lot of travel required. However, BDC assesses client's needs to determine the frequency of travel, rather than using a standard Monday-Thursday arrangement.

I have been working at BDC Advisors full-time for less than a year

    Pros

+ People – Hands down one of the greatest perks to working at BDC is the caliber of your coworkers and colleagues. Everyone at the firm is exceptionally sharp and talented, with deep industry experience and consulting expertise. You will work hand-in-hand with former Big 3 consultants and healthcare C-suite execs, giving you phenomenal opportunities to learn and grow through observation and practice, as well as a good...

    Cons

    - BDC is a virtual firm, which can take some time to get used to. There is a central “hub” in Miami, and entrants to the firm are generally required to begin their career there. This helps to ease the transition into the company and in getting used to the work style, but the rest of your team will in all likelihood be scattered across the country. - The learning curve can be steep, particularly if you don’t have a...

I have been working at BDC Advisors full-time

    Pros

Can't say enough about the talent and intelligence of everyone who works here. When it comes to strategic thinking, especially for novel strategies, this firm is unbeatable. Since the company is still small (though growing), it offers ample opportunity to get involved in all aspects of a project. Compensation and Benefits are high for the industry, more in line with larger firms. Management team is approachable...

    Cons

The firm has been going through some growing pains, but management has displayed a history of learning quickly. Because the firm is still small, training is often left to the individual, though it is supported by management. Working with such high-caliber peers often means a sacrifice of work-life balance to meet and exceed expectations; can be a challenge and is not for everyone, definitely demands individuals that...

    Pros

Great people: Professionals are industry thought leaders and fun to work with Interesting projects: The firm works with leading hospitals, health systems and academic medical centers on strategic issues, often culminating in work and solutions which are pioneering in nature Advancement opportunities: Meritocratic environment where success is rewarded with increased responsibility and compensation

    Cons

Travel can be difficult at times but is managed better than at other consulting firms. Firm travels to client site as needed rather than a traditional Monday to Thursday model.

I have been working at BDC Advisors full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

BDC has a blue chip set of clients in the health care provider and health insurance sectors. The BDC personnel working with these clients are high caliber, insightful and hard working. The mix of exciting clients and highly motivated, capable colleagues makes a rewarding work environment.

    Cons

The demands of serving multiple clients nationwide can challenge each person's work life balance. Each employee must find the best way to meet this need for balance. Also, there are numerous client deadlines which require each staff member to manage time to meet the demands of our clients.

    Advice to Management

There is a need to have a more structured development process for younger staff members. The on site development associated with client work is first rate but more structured training of staff could help career progression.

    Pros

Ability to stretch my capabilities, broaden the depth of my knowledge, and work with the best people in the industry.

    Cons

Work / life balance, but it's worth it and not any worse than other companies would expect.

I have been working at BDC Advisors full-time

    Pros

Everything about BDC is geared toward being thought leaders in health care. The firm gets together regularly just to brainstorm on strateigc innovations that could be help clients gain competitive advantage, and provide higher quality care. The firm works with hospitals, physicians, and insurers - so it spans the gamut of the health care delivery system. Lots of work - but it is great to be working directly with executive...

    Cons

While the learning curve is virtually vertical - and you will be astonished at the pace of your development, BDC is more a "throw you in the pool" place, than a "hold your hand." I found that really great. Most of the work is done on the road, and you are working with a few teams at a time, which means in a short time you will be working with a lot of people at the company.

    Advice to Management

I would like to see a bit more development for staff.
