    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at BDO full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Friendly colleagues
    2. happy working environment
    3. stable procedures in place
    4. good exposure as clients are from different industries
    5. open communication (depends under which team)

    Cons

    1. No work life balance
    2. Salary lower than market rate at least 20%
    3. Upper management forever thinks you are not loaded enough
    4. Benefits not attractive (i.e dental, annual leave, etc)
    5. Limited provision of stationeries, most of us buy our own stationeries
    6. Hiring process is demotivating existing staffs (i.e hiring someone with minimal experience and exposure as senior)
    7. Do not expect good salary package if you are promoted internally, someone hired externally (at a lower job band) can easily have higher salary than you
    8. Management never learn from mistakes, they think that staffs can easily be replaced and never improve retention plans
    9. Pathetic salary increments (especially annual salary review)
    10. Overload certain (i.e capable) staffs who almost do overtime every single day
    11. Limited growth as not enough staff to do fieldwork and hence no capacity to take on new engagements
    12. HR super rude before and during interview, never show friendliness to candidates
    13. IT personnel always show black face, which makes us dread of going to IT

    Advice to Management

They never listen, why bother to waste saliva?

They think that we are easily replaced as fresh grads always treat BDO as a jumping stone.

I worked at BDO full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Large firm with strong processes in place, most staff are friendly and there was plenty of training available.

    Cons

Within 4 months of starting, having left a secure job, BDO went through a restructure which saw the vast majority of marketing professionals at risk of redundancy.

    Advice to Management

Staff morale was pretty low the entire time I was there, as there were rumors about the restructure, don't recruit new employees three months before you put them at risk of redundancy.

I worked at BDO full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Stepping stone to a Big 4

    Cons

-18 months bond (3 months pay-back if broken). It is very common for staff to leave after their bond period.

    -Lousy remuneration and benefits

-Management (Partners and Managers) show favouritism, which affect jobs assigned and exposure given, ultimately affecting career progression

-No work life balance. During off-peak periods in audit, staff may be assigned to different departments which is having their peak period, hence staff will be experiencing 'peak period' all year round

-Attractive exposure opportunities communicated during the interview was different from actual job assigned (i.e. IPO/listed jobs opportunities)

-A lot of small SMES clients with messy accounts

-Staff may encounter manager with foul temper, which is the one of the reasons staff breaks bond

-Do not provide laptops to staff for work purpose, staff needs to buy from the company including the Microsoft software. Laptop depreciate over 3 years, that is, if staff will to leave the company before 3 years, they have to pay for the remaining useful life. The price 'sold' to the staff is often marked-up as compared to the same model sold in the market.

    Advice to Management

Management will not take in any advice so there's no point in giving. Advice has been given many years ago (refer to past reviews) and there has not been any action taken.

I worked at BDO full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Any department other than Public Sector assurance is great to work for. Good diversity of Non public sector audit clients.

    Cons

Terrible and highly unprofessional team to work for. No support network. No work life balance. High staff turnover. No career progression. Ridiculous amount of work related travel. Huge shortage of staff.

    Advice to Management

    Don't know where to start

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I worked at BDO full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The junior employees (i.e. senior consultant and below) are friendly, but they generally all leave after an average of 2 years

    Cons

    1. Management team are made up of "experts", individuals who have never been in management consulting and have no idea what they are doing.

    2. The partner is a salesman, coming from a sales background and clients often complains of the partner promising things that the operational team cannot deliver.

    3. Financial advisory is a sham, with financial "analysis" being generated from a free website. Financial advisory will tell the client that the calculation is "proprietary.

    4. Salary is grossly below market average, with a starting salary for an "Analyst" at $2600, with a 18-month bond. The contract will also state that if you break the bond, you will have to compensate 3 months worth of salary for "training expenses incurred".

    5. Training is ad hoc, and often irrelevant to the job scope.

    6. In the 6 or so years, the partner has virtually had a 100% turnover TWICE.

    7. Company, and by extension, partner (there is only one consulting partner), has no vision and when a colleague asked the partner at the strategic retreat: "What is the company's vision and how will we get there?" The answer from the partner was, "Work hard and let's be among the top."

If you are incompetent at your job, but are an expert at playing politics, this is the place for you. For everyone who wishes to learn and build a career, avoid this place at ALL costs.

    Advice to Management

You have done an amazing job at making the company a classic case of everything an organisation should NOT do.
