I have been working at BFL Canada full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There is few (30%) amazing firefighters, that keep the whole structure relatively straight.

    Cons

No time to work well. Cutting corners work culture. An employee is recognize if brings direct new revenue. Need more experienced staff.

    Advice to Management

Stop draining your talented employee. Do not keep rotten apples by excusing them.

I worked at BFL Canada full-time

    Pros

Good salary, well located. Have access to a broad range of accounts. Money is there there if you are willing to put in the effort

    Cons

Training could be better. Most growth is done through acquisition and not organically within the company. You will not climb the managerial ladder

    Advice to Management

You are as strong as your weakest link, train your employees better !

I have been working at BFL Canada full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Flexible schedule -Good compensation, benefits and retirement contributions -Lots of opportunities as they always hire from within first -Co-workers are very friendly - though half the time they are talking behind your back -Higher level management and HR are very approachable and interested in helping

    Cons

-Entry level positions have a huge turn over rate - it is very hard to feel appreciated here. They will sing you praises all the time but... the road to hell is paved with good intentions -There isn't a lot of room to growth for entrepreneurial-minded people here. Every little step out of the box you want to take needs to meet several (silly) standards and it all takes so much effort that you just give up half way... through it -It is amazing, how people get away with murder here -Some units are definitely more over worked than others. Some of it is because, in my opinion, not everybody pulls their own weight on daily tasks. There is a lot of "this is not on my job description therefore not my problem" minded people here

    Advice to Management

It is commendable to be so patient towards employee's that are not the most motivated but not enforcing good work ethics is unfair to people who are actually wanting to work and show a certain level of excellence that BFL wants to portrait towards clients. It is also good to keep in mind that times change and what was "the norm" 20 years ago isn't necessarily the best way to do business today.

I have been working at BFL Canada full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good company if you're already established and successful. Don't come here if you're looking to grow or rely on management. I guess most traditional large companies are mostly the same.

    Cons

Don't come here if you want to be valued. Management does not follow through on agreements, ever. Lots of time wasting and corporate politics. This company has a lot of barriers to getting stuff done; compliance department, communications department, a department for everything. Whatever entrepreneurial spirit you have, leave it at the door. Divisions and units are very isolated, in silos, and do not help... each other or work together. Company does not value staff: there are no staff events (okay, there is one in the summer; that's it), very little perks, and the 'Christmas event' is now a casual lunch in January sometime. These are petty things but they speak to the psychology of management and shows how little they invest in their staff.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times. Stop squashing staff's ambitions with corporate governance and excessive control. Invest in staff's work satisfaction.

    Pros

Insure larger accounts than smaller brokers. Have more insurance markets.

    Cons

People are not treated equally. Make you feel inadequate. There is allot of office politics.

    Advice to Management

Should be equal opportunity for everyone. No one should be treated better than others. Talking behind others backs should be taking seriously but management is part of the problem.
