I have been working at BGE as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    Very pleasant Instructors and Managers

    Cons

A bit too reactive. Often in a position of playing "catch up" rather than planning work loads and projects.

I have been working at BGE full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good competitive pay, good benefits and extra perks, good hours though some overtime is necessary per job requirements, decent work environment

    Cons

Very political environment at times, the upper management can at times be aloof to the concerns of non exempt employees

I worked at BGE as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great team environment & project manager. Compensation was at or above market base rates. Growth opportunities.

    Cons

Lack of clear lines of sight to common goals across company. Some departments work in silos. Some employees felt unappreciated & overwhelmed with having to assume multiple assignments with no additional compensation. Employee development in some cases was stagnant.

    Advice to Management

Encourage more individual and team development. Seek opportunities to engage broader employee/contractor involvement in project planning and execution. Incentivize work teams.

I have been working at BGE full-time

    Pros

    * Great Salary, started at $20.42/hour in a call center environment - with increases as you gain more skills/complete more training. Current rate with 2 skills (Collections/Service Orders) is $21.53/hour
    * Full Time Employment, convenient location to Baltimore City - guarded entrances, safe office work environment
    * Great matching 401K Program & other benefits
    * 11 Vacation Days, 4 Floating Holidays, etc. that increases based on tenure with the company
    * There is opportunity to move within the company, but you have to stick with it - and the call center has a really high turnover rate
    * There are a lot of Employee Resource Groups that offer opportunities to network & etc, but with the lack of work/life balance in the call center - you really aren't able to participate in any of it
    * Very high call volume call center - thousands of calls a day, and customer base varies - many are highly opinionated of the company being a "monopoly"

    Cons

    * Absolutely no work/life balance - Call center employees are essential from 7AM-7PM while the business is open.
    * Monthly rotating schedules that change. Your start time could be anywhere between 7AM - 10:15AM, or 4PM. Flexibility is a must, but more often than not - the entire call center can be kept "until further notice" - which could result in a 12-hour shift regularly.
    * Near impossible to schedule things around work - including doctors appointments, child care, anything social outside of work. Operations team attempts to balance business needs and the humanity of call center employees - but has a long way to go to reach any sort of "balance" for the employees.

I have been working at BGE as an intern

    Pros

-The Culture: The people at BGE are great, it's a friendly and diverse environment. The CEO has made this one of his initiatives.

-Modernization: BGE is an old company attempting to turn its image around. Expect nicer workplaces with amenities and modern benefits in the near future.

-Opportunities: BGE is a large company with many departments, projects, and lines of work. There is a niche here for almost anyone. Engineers are especially mobile within the company, usually getting a rotation program at the beginning of their career to find their place in the company.

    -Compensation is very competitive

    Cons

-Modernization: Many of the workplaces are dated with some being borderline neglected.

-There is still friction from the Exelon takeover. BGE is redefining itself under the Exelon umbrella and is currently in a transition period. This leads to many conflicting and redundant ways of doing things that can be frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to challenge interns, many of us are looking for rewarding work after school and an internship is a good way to show us that we can get that at BGE.

    Pros

Extremely friendly and welcoming environment. Flexible work hours. Upper Management very transparent and accessible. Mobility inside of BGE and other Exelon companies seem to be a priority. Large program to modernize work spaces. Compensation.

    Cons

Had some problems getting access to some things required for my work. Some slow periods when I didn't have any work to do. Notable/Recognizable dissonance between the "Exelon way" and the established BGE way at some points.
