I worked at BH Media Group full-time

    Pros

It's air conditioned. Bathroom up front is very clean. Parking is free.

    Cons

Knowing that some of the people that work the presses' in the back are literally high on the job. Management turns a blind eye. You can catch a contact buzz walking around the presses'. It's a very cliche' company. If you don't have friend or family member who is already in the company, you are treated like an outsider and do NOT get treated as as equal. I had over 15 years experience in the field over my co-worker...

    Advice to Management

Don't let members of your team dictate to others the tasks they should also be doing as well. Get rid of the favoritism and treat everyone equal. Or at least be on the same playing field if you're both being trained equally for the same job. Sexist, favoritism, infuriating, hurtful, (Being lied to about the pay for the position}. It's just wrong. Oh, and they do NOT give pay raises due to the cost of living or performance.

I have been working at BH Media Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The work was simple and supervisor was nice. If you can handle routine work and deadlines it is a fit. If a starter position, I believe it is a good fit.

    Cons

Company began making up new policies while I was there targeting employees. The price of insurance is not worth the pay. Also, you must work holidays and some weekends.

      Pros

There are none, other than it's a job.

      Cons

General hostile work environment No pay raises for many years Inept and only focused on money and benefits to themselves in most if not all levels of management, especially for publishers, human resources, editors Human resources are pawns, butt-kissers to publishers, etc., and not very well informed or skilled in dealing with human beings and the work force. Too many to list.. nothing good to say about this...

      Advice to Management

Stop posting cut and paste responses to feedback and do something. Corporate sets the tone and allows local people to abuse workers. You may have it good in Omaha, but most of your other properties are living hells for the rank and file.

      Pros

Co workers are great to work with. Discounts at a majority of Berkshire Hathaway owned companies. Exposure to a vast majority of systems.

      Cons

No raises, No bonus, lack of employee retention, parking is expensive. Little to no chance of moving up in the company.

      Advice to Management

      Cons

Cult-like environment, boys club, sexist towards females in stereotypical male roles

      Advice to Management

Stop being sexist, give employees more than 6 weeks to learn a new job and prove themselves, create an open environment instead of a high school clique atmosphere.

      Pros

THe elevator usually works although sometimes it does not. But if you're asking me for one plus I'll go with elevator.

      Cons

Dreadful environment, poor quality computers, office equipment and furniture that's falling apartment, no raises, regular reductions in work force, H.R. department, totalitarian environment, no comps for using company car, no chance of upward advancement.

      Advice to Management

Try to realize that you are dealing with human beings and not cattle. You need to put yourself in the place of your employees and see if you'd like being treated like that. Hint: you would not.

      Pros

Freedom in your position if on the sales team. You get to meet a lot of interesting people as well.

      Cons

Incompetent and close minded leadership are steering the company straight into even more of a downward spiral. There are very few people with any real understanding of their own products and this creates an amazing lack of training and a big revolving door with both clients and employees. Compensation is terrible resulting in multiple layoffs. What’s more, the ones being laid off are more administrative positions which...

I worked at BH Media Group full-time for more than a year

      Pros

I think the staff was the greatest part of this job. Most of the employees are supportive - nice people to work with.

      Cons

There is not nearly enough focus on giving positive feedback to employees who work in non advertising jobs. It seems the paper is focused so much on advertising revenue that all the support staff get over looked for their hard work and contributions.

      Advice to Management

Pay much more attention to human relations. Certain upper management lack any humane communication skills. There needs to be more progressive, holistic management and much more understanding of the hard work administrative and customer service employees do.
