I worked at BHI SecureConnect full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn and develop IT skills. Dave and Nate were great to work for. Coworkers were mostly great, there were a few bad apples, but what company doesn't have a couple?

    Cons

Work life balance was a little out of wack, but not horrible. Pay was a little low when I started, but they implemented some real pay scales and things were starting to normalize. A lot of the technology was dated, and not enough effort was put forward to correct technical debt.

    Advice to Management

    None, BHI sold to Trustwave.

    Pros

    Company strives for edge technology.

    Cons

Family owned and run business, still using some 1970's management philosophy.

    Advice to Management

Do not under-estimate your competition. Doing so has and will cost you market share.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at BHI SecureConnect full-time

    Pros

Relative freedom to get things taken care of for customers.
    Sometimes better than being unemployed.

    Cons

Too many to have a comprehensive list, but heres a try:

Building is very poor, used to be a warehouse, no ventilation, too few bathrooms, too little parking (you will always see employees parked on the road in front of the building because there are no spaces).
Management is chaotic with little vision and the willingness to sacrifice even that on a whim.
Extremely low pay scale compared to any other comparable positions in the Twin Cities.
Completely unrealistic work requirements, you are to drop everything else in your life to get this thing done so that we can make a pissed off customer stop threatening to cancel their service.
All of the good people leave and nothing is done to try and retain good talent.

Also see reviews for Wand Corp in Eden Prairie, MN to get a good idea of the culture, BHI SecureConnect and Wand are owned and managed by the same family and the issues employees face are very similar at both.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company to someone who can grow the business and take care of the employees.

"Fast growing environment has some growing pains. Great place for single people who can commit to such an environment."

    Pros

-New technology, honest folks, and up-beat.
-High standards for conduct makes a polite environment.
-great location near the main HWYs.
    -Coworkers are all great people
-New products that look very promising
-Run a tight ship and have honest licensing of all software related items
-Working hard to grow and may be starting to study how this affects employees
-Good tracking of company progress and sharing of data

    Cons

-Many growing pains can make a few revolving positions. Typical of an entrepreneurial setting. Management seems more stable, but the door revolves loosely for the normal folks as they can pay the price, and can get burned out, from the many quick changes and decisions made.

    -Benefits are truly expensive

-For those used to a normal corporate setting- forget the frills as there is no loose change for ergonomics, natural lighting, or even fixing the toilet.

    -unusual penalties for honest mistakes.

-Company too busy to have strong HR presence.

-Too little parking. large daily overflow to the street which has dangerous trucks hauling.

-90 day trial period reflects that of a factory using rules that treat a new person with distrust right away.

    Advice to Management

-To start things out correctly, a clean slate is best. Assuming a true professional is hired, passive aggressive rules need not be used.

-Perhaps less professional personalities result from hiring with salaries that are sub-standard. There just seems to be a hesitation to commmit (low salary, 90 day wait for many benefits., funny rules) and that can set the stage differently. -seen few newer faces (never spoken about with them) looking grim here and there at times that relate to this.

-Keep on growing but don't forget to grow on all limbs (HR and such) to keep balance for all. Sounds crazy, but things like tailoring someone's desk to them can make a big difference in the long run for both sides. Many IT departments are now trained in true ergonomics for this reason.
