    Pros

Great benefits and pay currently but company has been really changing with drop in Oil prices and Global reduction in use of their commodities.

    Cons

In 2015/2016 with drop in Oil prices and other commodities that BHP deals in there have been many changes to centralize operations to Australia, their Corporate location. I see further reductions and movements coming to standardize and reduce costs in operations. Great company but a sign of the current times. When times get tough, management will tell you one thing but still do whatever action they want to do.

I have been working at BHP Billiton full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

BHP pays very well and has excellent benefits. The top executives in the company have a great vision for the company and the company charter is something that is taken very seriously. I've gotten to work with some of the brightest stars in the business.

    Cons

Middle management and supervisors do not care about the employees, there is no focus on career development, and rotations are all about who you know. While the top leaders in the company preach the charter values and have a clear vision of the future, middle management and supervisors have not bought in to the vision. Excellent people don't stay long due to poor morale.

    Advice to Management

If I could advise management, I would tell them to look past the assets and recognize that the people are what make the company. They've lost some of the best in the business due to terrible management of the people. The money and benefits are superb, but when people don't get proper training or support, at the end of the day, I think I'll take happiness over the money.

I worked at BHP Billiton full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay and bonuses, $2 lunches, gym membership discounts

    Cons

Huge turnover, and when people leave, they take their time to replace them. Management could not care less when good people quit. Constantly understaffed and overworked, and there will be blaming and huge consequences if you do not finish doing two people's work on time.

Frequently hire consultants from Accenture, and PWC and Deloitte, who are a nightmare to work with.

Culture of throwing people under the bus and stealing credit for other people's work.

Some people work 40/wk and some work 80/week. Work life balance is terrible for you if you have a bad supervisor, and moving to other departments is impossible.

    Pros

Great Compensation salary. Great Cafeteria food and excellent prices.

    Cons

Brown Nosing will get you far...not actual hard work and taking initiative.

    Advice to Management

The communication is horrible. Management only takes input from their favorite minions. They don't listen why bother.

I worked at BHP Billiton (More than a year)

    Pros

Value based company - employees lives its values each day (noting that like anywhere there are times where these can take a backseat)
REM - remuneration is above market rates and generous
Scale of operations - unparalleled in resources and gives you the opportunity to work on the biggest projects and mine sites
Diversity of opportunities - the scale of BHP means there is always a new place and function to explore and learn about

    Cons

    - Limited long term career progression for non technical personnel
    - Potential to be boxed in as an automaton without real consideration for development
    - Going through a 'cost out' process and roles are consistently being reviewed

    Advice to Management

Recognise and take advantage of scalability of ideas and processes. The standardisation journey was only partially implemented and there remains much value to be unlocked.

    Pros

Superb office in Singapore. Great culture. Safety culture.

    Cons

Rigid and too political. Too focused on SAP.

    Advice to Management

Sadly senior positions tend to be white dominated.

    Pros

Well known company, good facilities, opportunities to work abroad, good working habit, people take their jobs seriously, employer negotiated rental car price.

    Cons

    Long hours, definitely.
people are generally older and the coporate culture is much more serious than a place with lots of younger people.

    Advice to Management

They should develop a better GLD for performance monitoring, review and bonus plan. Managers need to be trained to have the ability to support his/her subordinates, not just the technical abilities.
