I have been working at BJ's Wholesale Club part-time

    Pros

Good pay, especially for entry-level part-time
    Supportive and accepting culture

    Cons

Flexible availability means literally any shift. Even random overnights that mess with your sleep schedule

    Advice to Management

Train new employees rather than hiring other people or working around them. The less we know, the easier it is for us to be let go and the more likely we are to quit.

I worked at BJ's Wholesale Club full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Job functions are all organized and planned, just need to follow procedures on a daily basis.

    Cons

Being a manager you're given a one hour break period. During evening shifts it is impossible to take at least a 30 minute break period without having to assist other employees. Having to follow redundant procedures that were outdated and any suggestions were looked over because everything is from "home office".

    Advice to Management

Take your time and do not over stress yourself, be clear of what your job duties are and make sure others are not pushing theirs on to you. As one of two male managers in the building a lot of things were strictly just for you to do because of the nature of the problem. Being trained in other areas and knowing a lot more information than other managers is good and bad at the same time. You WILL be asked constantly to do things because you are very good at it and efficient while others sit back and never do a thing to advance themselves.

I have been working at BJ's Wholesale Club full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Decent management pay for industry
Flexible Hours, close twice a week
    Average benefits.
    Promote from within.

    Cons

Zone and Regional managers nit pick literally every aspect of your job.
    Health insurance is awful.
Payroll is so light that management has to do literally everything in the store leading to auditory paperwork not getting done unless you want to stay late.

    Advice to Management

More payroll will literally make everybodies lives easier. Members get pissed when theres only 1 register open ecause we can't afford a second cashier.

    Pros

You're never bored. There's always something that needs to be done.

    Cons

The tone is set by the store management. I've had good managers who trusted my opinions and decisions. Current management doesn't.

    Advice to Management

Don't treat your people like idiots. You need us more than we need you. You can't run a store with just a half dozen managers - if you could, you wouldn't need dozens of employees per store. Let us do our jobs and don't micromanage.

    Pros

Solid benefits, good culture, mostly friendly coworkers.

    Cons

Training was really brief, I felt discouraged from asking questions because sometimes supervisors were rude and would make you feel stupid for asking them. A lot of politics in acquiring jobs after temp position.

    Advice to Management

Create an environment that further encourages asking questions.
