I have been working at BJ's Wholesale Club part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I work at a new store that open in SC. The department I work in is the bakery and the duties I have are pretty easy for the most part. Pay is not bad as I am a part time employee. Free membership but I mean it's only $50 a year so doesn't mean much.

    Cons

Horrible management in all departments which cause high turnovers for a brand new store. Management doesn't care about it's employees. No consistency for schedules, leave work at 930pm and back in at 4am the next day. Favoritism is horrible which causes a lot of problems for the department. Lot of brown nose!!!

    Advice to Management

Give credit or recognition to the hard workers. Provide better consistency on work schedules, especially for part time employees. Don't take advantage of your department. Be fair across the board and not to certain people. Treat everyone with the same respect!

I worked at BJ's Wholesale Club full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free membership and that's about it

    Cons

Not a good pay rate for what they want you to do. Terrible pay raises for the hourly workers. They have you doing 2 or 3 other jobs plus your own and then write you up if you don't get your job done. Always short staffed when asked about it always told we don't have the payroll this week. Management tells you they care about their employee but they don't. Rarely get you breaks or lunches because they don't have enough staff.

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about your bonuses and take better care of your hourly staff they are the backbone of your company.

I worked at BJ's Wholesale Club part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free membership as long as you're working there
    Nice co workers
    You typically get enough hours
You get to deal with SOME nice people
    Good starting salary
Time and a half pay on Sunday's

    Cons

    Most customers have no patience.
Managers do not care about you or how much you work.
Schedules are made 3 weeks in advance so you need to put in early for any days off.
Management takes full advantage of open availability.
They expect you to work every weekend.
Bakery is extremely busy during graduation season for cakes, and management cuts hours so you're always understaffed. Rotating schedules will make you close one night and open the next day.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people so everyone does not have to work EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND. Rotate schedules without putting people on opening and closing shifts

    I worked at BJ's Wholesale Club part-time

    Pros

Cashiers start at $10.00 which isn't bad
Other "lower" employees were very friendly

    Cons

Store management and supervisors do not care about you as a person. I was horribly ill, had a high fever for over a week, so I was out for four shifts. I called them about it each day to keep them updated and gave them a doctor's note, but they showed no concern and did not believe me.

    I worked at BJ's Wholesale Club part-time

    Pros

    Weekly pay
    Some flexibility in schedule

    Cons

Rude managers, unintelligent and childish supervisors. Favoritism. Blatant disrespect, racism. Just another number to the company. Favoritism. Idiotic operating systems. Broken and outdated equipment.

    Advice to Management

Have hard conversations with yourself about the racism that lives within you. Pay attention to what goes on on the front lines as far as how supervisors are treating and managing employees. Take time to watch and ensure checkout procedures are working or need to be changed. Invest money back into the store and update the equipment.
