I worked at BMC Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Cons

pay was above scale, lots of bad business decisions and politics caused downturn
Management can't manage themselves, much less others.
top level intense drama due to ego trips

    Advice to Management

    better long term planing
    less random and unilateral moves

    Pros

Awesome people at the departmental level.
Architecturally sound software with solid development processes and coding standards enforced.
    Pay 10-15% above industry average.

    Cons

Due to the politics and power struggles it's best to fly low and keep under the radar. Don't over or under perform, you can quickly find yourself in the middle of a bad situation.

Technology in general seems to be considered a nuisance by many in upper management whose focus is on reducing cost via outsourcing without any consideration on quality, standards, process. This will likely cause much pain going forward.

    Pros

The company is very entrepreneurial and encourages career growth. It is a "flat" organization structure which allows you direct contact with senior management. The company is focused on growth and creates an exciting culture. Company is focused on being disruptive.

    Cons

Small companies are always going to have some of the small company problems. Could bring more efficiency to back office.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more A+ players

I have been working at BMC Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A great place to learn, grow and build a career. Many people have found BMC Group to be a stepping stone to other things and many long term employees remain. A good work-life balance.

    Cons

Management unfortunately allows people such as who gave written recent unfavorable reviews to survive so long as disgruntled people without replacing them.

    Advice to Management

Develop a stronger HR focus for recruiting and also elimination of deadwood. Sometimes a little more turnover could be good. At the same time develop employees through professional training if they show potential and are loyal.

    "Grossly Unfair Reviews (Not Really)"

    Pros

Paid the bills; learned to deal with difficult personalities; learned to tolerate unprofessionalism; awesome place to work if you don't plan on having a personal life.

    Cons

As stated in another reviewer's comment, there are so many inappropriate comments and way to many political games especially for a small company. It was a waste of a few months I can ever gain back!

    Advice to Management

Learn to keep your emotions under control of things don't go your way. Be fair...that means ignoring nepotism and favoritism.

I have been working at BMC Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Associate position good for someone straight out of college. Decent compensation considering the job. Good if your looking to work for a small company.

    Cons

Not a good fit for someone coming from a structured corporate environment. The atmosphere is an HR Manager's nightmare. Inappropriate jokes and comments. Atmosphere can be unbelievably inappropriate. You can kiss your weekends and dinner plans goodbye.

    Advice to Management

Management should be fair across the board with office policies. Management should also "lift" staff and maintain a professional demeanor.

    Pros

Most of the workers are talented , and friendly . There is a genuine desire to make the company recover its past success.

    Cons

Worked there for 5 years. Found upper management to be inappropriately sexist and misogynistic. Some rash, ill conceived decisions by the senior management have left the company weakened , trailing in its sector, and ill-equipped to recover.

    Advice to Management

CEO needs to decide whether the management team has the acumen to really lead the company. Continued damage caused by impetuosity and ineptitude of the current leadership may well kill this company.

I have been working at BMC Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A relatively small and flat organization, hence great visibility for high performers.

If you are relatively experienced and confident that you can contribute right away, while keeping your eye on the rewards, this is the place for you.

    Cons

Very little to none in terms of training programs, coupled with very little hand holding. You need a self-starter mentality and sustained high energy level from the moment you join.

I have been working at BMC Group full-time

    Pros

Company isn't too big that it has lost the personal feel. Lots of flexibility in a "work hard, play hard" type of environment. Not stodgy or stale - a "young" feel, and entrepreneurial. Products and services are good.

    Cons

The standard stuff. Some processes are defunct but that would be true anywhere. You need to be a cultural fit - which can be a challenge for new (truly qualified) talent - as there has been some turnover.

    Advice to Management

Increase HR, internal communications. Appropriate and localized middle management.
