I have been working at BMC Software full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Broad Portfolio, solid ecosystem of support for AEs.

    Cons

Entrenched in On Prem but trying to make the Cloud transition...too much baggage. Remedy and Bladelogic customers are "fatigued". Support revenue dropping off fast. Quota's are a moving target and it's never down.

    Advice to Management

Reward the AEs and AMs for supporting the base. It's a lot of work to keep Remedy customers or move them to the Cloud. By not compensating above current annual run rates, you're losing your best people.

I worked at BMC Software full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great people
Accommodating work schedule (e.g., work remote when needed), although this is dependent upon the group you're in

    Cons

Company not focused on continued development/training of personnel
Difficult to advance unless you have a strong champion

    Advice to Management

While it's important to bring in new people, don't forget about the existing employees that got you where you are today.

I worked at BMC Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work with a workforce worldwide

    Cons

BMC Software has turned from being a family to a group who dictates all actions, movements, and thought. Especially the SaaS group does not tolerate employees who free think for themselves. They micromanage every facet of every day. Working for this group is intolerable.

    Advice to Management

The best thing to do is eliminate all mid to upper management and start over with fresh blood.

I have been working at BMC Software full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance. Workload is manageable most of the time except near the end of release.

    Cons

Salary is not competitive. Bonus is always paid at 50% because of unsatisfactory company performance even though employee performance is above expectation.

    Advice to Management

Please compare salary with other bay area companies and revise salary to retain employees. Also it does not match when we get a rosy picture of company performance throughout the year and then pay 50% bonus at the end because of not achieving target. Please be honest with employees while sharing updates on company performance.

I have been working at BMC Software full-time

    Pros

BMC has grown a lot since I first joined and there are many opportunities to grow your skills, try new things, and gain exposure to areas of the business you may not normally experience in a larger company.

    Cons

l have never worked at a company where people are constantly worried about being laid off. Within the past several years it has been happening frequently across various departments .

Little to no training is on offer and you are usually dependent of your teammates for guidance in a new role.

    Advice to Management

Provide additional training resources to your employees

I worked at BMC Software full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Casual attire
    Free drinks and food (sometimes)

    Cons

For the sake of brevity, we'll just tackle the glaring issues:

    (1) Managers are unqualified to the point of it being embarrassing - know nothing about sales and business but rather just say YES to blind leadership, bark orders and conduct meaningless meetings that waste a great deal of time and takes away from daily activities (which then affects your performance). Very poor choices in managers

    (2) Ethics don't exist - make your number no matter what and even then, you aren't guaranteed anything. A lot of cheating, loopholes, nepotism/favoritism, and too political. This place is a circus and a high school at the same time. Gossip, cliques, everyone judges. Just plain awful for an "enterprise" company

    (3) Customer perception - very poor. BMC screwed a lot of customers over in the past with extremely poor customer service. They became known as the company that would disappear until the contract was up and then upcharge customers upon renewal. They will brainwash you into thinking they're "leaders" but its all based on biased reports. Don't believe a word.

    (4) Very few good territories - just gotta get lucky with this one. 80% of the territories and alignment are trash, and they expect entry-level sales reps to "figure it out". Maybe managers should lead by example? But that would mean actually doing something.

    Advice to Management

It is embarrassing who is in management positions. I would never buy a thing from any of these people and I honestly feel bad for people who have to learn the wrong way from incompetent managers. Also, attrition is on the rise for a reason. Might want to actually enage with the people that work for you once in awhile and look into it. Just a thought
