    Pros

Reasonable work life balance. Can work from home. Flexible hours. Adoption of agile methodologies. Competitive compensation, though bonuses are partial due to company goals not achieved.

    Cons

Stagnant and slow-paced organization. Lots of legacy stuff. Modern technologies are late to be adopted, if at all. Not the best place to be in if you think about your career future. Low retention, good people are the first to leave. Employees are the least important, with workforce reduction and no HR presence on site.

    Pros

Pace of change. The company talks about transformation - with the provision of it's innovative solutions. Some opportunities in marketing to build the face of this change and to build the awareness of this well respected brand. Some great products and serves some of the worlds biggest brands. Some good people in the organization, but also very male driven environment.

    Cons

No on-boarding that is useful on any of the systems or products. You are expected to know pretty much immediately about all the products, people and operate in a sink or swim type environment. Lots of back-stabbing, people aren't very nice to people in general (not in all cases) but that is caused by how they are treated by the higher ups. Women are not promoted very often. Company brings in Sr Male Directors more often than promoting a Female Senior Manager.

    Advice to Management

Incentivize the people who are contributing to the companies growth and nurture their development instead of driving people away, because of a lack of decent leadership. The company talks about Integrity being one of its values, but lately that is in short supply. Allow people to make a mistake occasionally and recognize the people actually doing the work, not the people taking credit for the work.

    Pros

BMC has a flexible work environment, decent benefits, good sales process.

    Cons

The teams are not aligned by geography from the Account Managers to the Product Managers to the Sales Engineers. This leads to weak collaboration, disparate teams, and lost revenue.

    Advice to Management

Create a climate and culture people want to be a part of.

    Pros

Large company - compensation is less than some competitors - but large product mix through many many acquisitions.

    Cons

Many leaders get their roles for political reasons and not merit. Large scale mass layoffs followed by a ton of hiring of new employees. No clear direction from senior leadership. Culture is old and stodgy.

I worked at BMC Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good exposure to Enterprise Product Development. And as its a pure technology company, lot of opportunities to explore. Good employee policies, Best Health Insurance policies, Employee Retention policies.

    Cons

Lot of things depends on which department you belong to. As some are purely into just maintenance, and some are in active development.

    Advice to Management

Management policies are good. Only probably, the department which are going to be soon slowed down, prepare proper migration plan to other department instead of layoffs

I have been working at BMC Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic people all over the organization. The work is exciting and challenging, and often makes a real difference. Company is actively involved in many community organizations. If you're a top performer, you're well taken care of. Company is very supportive of working from home/remote workers.

    Cons

Performance bonuses are unpredictable and obfuscated - you never know what you're going to get, and you have no idea how the company determined the amount. It can seem like the company is rigging the game a bit. Lots of poor performers in entrenched positions. Layoffs every April while other groups hire madly. Business units compete with one another instead of complement one another.

    Advice to Management

If performance bonuses are systemic, share more about the system. Make your BU's complimentary rather than competitive. If you're going to rebalance the work force every April, use internal employees first.
