I worked at BMC Software full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Forward thinking company, most employees work remotely, good middle managers that care about the workers.

    Cons

Upper management thinks in terms of headcounts, rather than what's in the heads that counts. Quick to layoff people at the bottom to help make quarterly numbers.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so reactionary. You are good at planning future strategies, but you need to remember that the company is built upon its history. Think before you damage the reputation.

I have been working at BMC Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Company, with lots of growth potential. Management no worse or better than many other Software company.

    Cons

Privately held, so there can be many moving parts all at the same time, with high expectations and stress.

I worked at BMC Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Industry leader in ITSM tools and products. Benefits and compensation were in line with the industry standards. Great people to work with. Team members always willing to help and lend advice when needed.

    Cons

Over the past couple of years, too much change in direction, management and line of sight on the business. When I first joined BMC, the company really cared about their employees and over the past couple of years that focus changed to the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Don't lose sight of the great people you have working for you. Give them a sense that you do really care about their lives and their security in working for a great company.

    Pros

BMC has good work and life balance culture. It is easy to work with cross functional teams and offshore teams..

    Cons

Nothing specific as cons in working at BMC Software. Does have lots of projects going on simultaneously by offshore teams, so time management is a must..

"Good company, but slow to adapt at times."

    Pros

BMC Software sells some exceptional products, and can address a lot of pain inside of IT operations. The Cloud Lifecycle Management tools are exceptiona, and at least 18 months ahead of the competition.

    Cons

Sometimes you see people that should not be doing the jobs that they are in. They are either unqualified, or incompetent, yet they stay and nobody is forcing them to leave. They also do not take many risks, but risk is inherent in innovation.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit more focused on the product and the customer, not necessarily the stock price. If the development org is not able to write stable and functional code, then you should consider drastic changes in that area to shake things up.

    Pros

relatively stable engineering department. despite work being moved to india, engineers are accomodated to other product teams. all attrition is based on performance only.

    Cons

since most work is moving to india, engineers are under pressure to work at lead and architect level. workplace is cramped, and office benefits (cafeteria, gym, etc) are being eliminated quickly.

    Advice to Management

They need to communicate clearly with the employees in San Jose regarding what jobs will be retained here, so they know what to work towards.
