I have been working at BMO Harris Bank (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good Benefits
Nice Match on 401k, dollar for dollar up to 5%
    Profit Sharing
    Bonus plan
Work independently, you are pretty much left alone to do you job.

    Cons

Banks never tend to use bleeding or leading edge technology
Work heath care was better before ObamaCare, now it costs more out of pocket.
Takes a long time for things to get done.
Really not a lot of opportunity for advancement
No job progression model for jobs, if there is it has never been shared with the employees.
Company is good with project planning, execution is another story. But its getting better.

    Advice to Management

C level always talks about reducing costs and expenses, yet who ever orders hardware in Canada sends them with unnecessary equipment.
If you a technical resource on a project, before any hardware is ordered, we should have to approve the order before it is placed. This could save a lot of wasted money.

I have been working at BMO Harris Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff is definitely the best part of working here. Everyone really makes an effort to work together as a team and help each other. Lastly, despite the push to meet sales goals everyone makes sure that the products or services we are discussing are relevant and will genuinely help clients.

    Cons

Despite discussed changes because of recent events at Wells Fargo the company is still VERY sales oriented while the incentive is very lacking. Favoritism is also very present.

    Advice to Management

The customer service representatives, specifically the ones at the teller line, are pushed to the back burner by management. This neglect and lack of acknowledgement, especially positive recognition, burns out employees very quickly and pits them against each other.

    Pros

Has some really great people. Relationships are long lasting.

    Cons

Difficult to get promotions, especially for Admin staff. Technology platform needs an update. Very difficult to get things approved. Too many layers of approvals. This company needs to take more risks, BMO plays it too safe.

    Advice to Management

    Invest in your technology
