I worked at BMO Harris Bank full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great team atmosphere. The Commercial real Estate Group is top-notch and work very well together. Managers are polite and understanding and clear on goals and expectations. Lending Bankers are sharp and offer increasing opportunities to develop additional skills and gain valuable exposure.

    Cons

BMO's technology (in Wisconsin) was inferior to that used by the former M&I Bank, resulting in too "many let's try this now" scenarios to manage the robust workloads.

    Advice to Management

Continue to solicit input from employees, to encourage the sharing of best practices and empower them to develop solutions to recurring issues they see firsthand.

    Pros

The benefits package is great and you are given plenty of vacation time.

Felt like just a number and not a person to upper management. Very sales driven. A lot of pressure to hit numbers and very little help to get you to those numbers.

I worked at BMO Harris Bank full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Vacation time, sick days, 401K

    Cons

Heavy push on sales, especially lending and credit cards. 50 voice contact sales required a week - impossible to get. Bankers feel like telemarketers a lot. Sometimes people are told if you don't get home equity line of credit or motgage soon there will be consequences.... or you are not going home until you have 10 phone conversation with customers and some appointments. Very high sales goals, no incentive pay because nobody can reach them. Constant turnover at retail branches creating a lot of stress for remaining employees.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.

    Pros

    Generous vacation time. Good benefits.

    Cons

The micromanagement is off the charts. You get no less than 5 or 6 emails a day telling you what you have done or what you haven’t done. Upper management doesn’t want to hear ANYTHING you have to say about change that could make the customer experience better. Their systems (all 7 of them) are old and antiquated (with the exception of Salesforce). They don’t invest in technology. Your sales goal is a moving target. Branches are under staffed. They want you to push products on customers they don’t need.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the bankers and tellers because they are the only people that are working with the customers. Take what they say and use it to improve the customers experience.
