I have been working at BMW Manufacturing full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Job Stability for internal employees

    Cons

Benefits (education assistance, lease car) are difficult to get what you want out of them, very flat organization (not a lot of opportunity for growth), interesting jobs require moving to Germany, largely expatriate managers who use Spartanburg as a stepping stone in their career

    Advice to Management

Give honest feedback to help grow and encourage employees. Ask where they see themselves and help them reach their goals. Listen to the line workers and specialists before making a quick decision that will affect thousands of people and cars.

I have been working at BMW Manufacturing full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, pay rate, perks, selective potential

    Cons

Management, company honesty/Integrity, you’re just a cog in the machine, selective potential

    Advice to Management

I worked for Bmw years ago when I was in my early twenties and I messed it up. It used to be a great place to work. And then I came back two years ago and boy has it changed. This second time around I got a great area and stayed for right at a year. I made friends, new my way around, and was over all content with the work environment other than the few typical grievances, eg they have cut back on quite a few major benefits. But then they had me transferred to assembly. I was told by numerous people that I did not have to worry about getting transferred but one person, with less seniority, whines about being transferred and told them to transfer ME by name... and they did? Now I’m so miserable that I’m having to find another job before I lose my sense of worth. There are over 9,000 people working in this plant. Every experience is different. But the potential to have a bad one is definitely there. The perks and benefits are great. The pay looks great but is not equal to the work some areas require. The decisions that are made seem to be made by ill-qualified children at times. Eg. they will transfer someone that has been in one area for over a year to a worse area for “production needs” and then turn around and need to hire people a couple of months later to cover the loss via transfers. All in all, it’s to keep turnover high (cheaper). What they did to me has happened PLENTY. They get you in somewhere you’ll become content with and then after a year (when you’re invested) move you to a “high turnover area”. Which is my nice way of saying not worth the money and the cost to your health and personal life. Or you could get lucky and have a great experience. May the odds forever be in your favor.
