I have been working at BMW Manufacturing full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good salary and great benefits. Opportunity for travel and living abroad. Rotating Product line, diversity of work.

    Cons

Thin management structure, not many opportunities for advancement to management. Stressful industry, penny pinching.

    Advice to Management

More low level management positions and team leader positions needed in order to find best upper management. It is still a who's-who when it comes to promotions and not merit based.

I have been working at BMW Manufacturing full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

insurance, car lease program, decent salary,401K

    Cons

Good ol boy advancement, No HR reps for associates, 0 sick days, below average vac compared to local companies. seniority has no value. No consistency (supervisors decrestion)) hours are long and hard on the body.

    Advice to Management

Place more value in your employees that have been there 15+ years.. Give another week vacation at 20yrs. Create more 8 hr work opportunities Most importantly listen to the production line associates (we have the most experience and knowledge of what should or should not be done).

I have been working at BMW Manufacturing full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Hires people off the street with just a high school education and pays them what people with graduate degrees make
Benefits are about $60 per MONTH for a WHOLE FAMILY
Five consecutive days off EVERY three weeks! It's like I get vacation every month.
Plant closes from Dec 23 until the new year, WITH pay.
Company still gives BONUSES and we are just production laborers.
Pay is highest in the town. We are in country Greer SC, not the big cities and paid extremely well.
Pay is $28 top pay and you only have to be BMW for a measly five years to get it with loads of overtime. One guy on the line made $95k and he only has high school education.
BMW gives us leased vehicles. They pay maintenance and insurance. You can drive a $100k 7 series for about $250 bi weekly or a $65k 5 series luxury and loaded for about $175 bi weekly or a Roadster for only about $100 bi-weekly. 2017 or newer.
Onsite doctors, cafe, and lots of vending machines.

    Cons

Negative employees who think the company owes them MORE than what they give.
Unskilled coworkers come in and think they have engineering degrees or a special skill and want to make $35 per hour or what other auto companies in Texas or Michigan make.
Long walks to the parking lot.
When hired through the temp agency it takes 1-3 years (depending on how hard you work) to be permanent.
Flat organization and no room for real growth, but what do you expect? People have to leave positions for new ones to open. People don't leave good companies.
Cafeteria lines are kind of long at night and they need more lines open.
Breaks are to short for us smokers because you have to walk so far to the smoking area that your break is almost over by the time you get there.
Managers cater to their problem kids instead of the good workers who don't complain.

    Advice to Management

Stop catering to babies and complainers and support the hard workers. Let them look for new jobs if everything is so bad. They complain and poison our morale, instead of just leaving.
Get more coverage in the cafe.
We need about 2 more contingencies.

I have been working at BMW Manufacturing full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good co-workers Terrible environment great place for the uneducated worker.

    Cons

Terrible work environment, uneducated management IE Buddy system in place. Terrible work life balance. No real benefits anymore. Plant is flat no room for growth. Basically just a terrible company now. Don't waste your time especially if your college educated, Greenville has much better companies to work for.

    Advice to Management

    Get a life!

    Pros

Wonderful benefits, employees are taken care of well, job security, lease car program, world travel opportunities

    Cons

Flat organization, Glass ceiling for non-Germans, weak program for further education, very limited vacation first five years, no negotiation for vacation days for transfers from other companies, Company is so large that slackers can slide under the radar

    Advice to Management

Ask GE and BMWNA about their vacation practices

I have been working at BMW Manufacturing full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast Growing. Compensation and benefits are still good compared to area manufacturing.
    Opportunities for travel.

    Cons

Declining benefits., declining wages as company has matured.
"Do more with less" has hit point of being ridiculous. Additionally, most will find it a bit of a struggle managing their work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Negotiate good starting salary upon entrance. Once in the door, youy will be lucky to get more than a 3% increase unless you are promoted (and BMW is a very flat organization)..

Car lease program saves me a lot of money.

    Cons

Cafeteria food sucks compared to German plants.
Politics get exhausting the higher up you go.
