I have been working at BMW of San Francisco full-time

    Pros

The environment and the people in it make working here a great experience. Free parking in the city is also a huge bonus. Affordable Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, Life Insurance. There's room for growth and advancement as management promotes from within.

    Cons

Can be a high-paced, stressful environment but that's the automotive industry. You just need to find the right people up for the challenge.

    Advice to Management

Be as open and transparent as possible with your employees. Have frequent discussions with each employee about their goals/future at the company.

I worked at BMW of San Francisco full-time

    Pros

Good location to go to work if you live in the city. Earning should be higher at BMWSF compared to comparable jobs over one of the bridges.

    Cons

Family owned atmosphere is dwindling. Lack of perceived interest from family owners. especially with recent management changes

    Advice to Management

    Learn from your predecessors

    Pros

    Parking, Benefits, company outings, BBQ's.

    Cons

Management constantly hangs over you, Hard work does not get recognized, Unfair advancement opportunities. Management plays favorites.

    Advice to Management

Your employees don't work for you, you work for your employees. Happy bees means more honey, More honey means more money.

I have been working at BMW of San Francisco full-time

    Pros

Family owned and operated, which means you don't have to go though the corporate red tape like you do in a lot of places. Great building, decent location, and free employee parking relatively close by. HR is an excellent team of people who are always willing to help. Management is mostly accessible and relatively easy to work with. Not a lot of micromanaging, which allows you independence to prioritize your tasks. Computer systems are user friendly and training for them is good. Hours are what you would expect at a dealership - not your 9-5 gig, but that's normal. Extra buildings/storage locations for vehicles and a new shop are in the future, so this could change some things, but probably for the better. Provided equipment is adequate and IT department is easily accessible and works fairly quickly.

    Cons

Frequently there is extreme pressure from management and a lot of unrealistic expectations. Seems as though you have to withstand a lot of abuse before managers will promote or give you your review and/or raise after you've put in your time. Pay plans are late in coming - sometimes well after you've been doing the job you were hired for or promoted to, which can be quite frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Be prompt with pay plans - people work to pay their bills and they can get frustrated when they aren't sure how they are going to pay their rent. If someone is due for a review - do it! Happy employees are productive employees!

    Pros

Great management, co-workers are fun to work with. Everyone is a professional at whatever job position they are in.

    Cons

Can be hectic at times, but that's not really a con

I worked at BMW of San Francisco full-time

    Pros

Everyone for the most part is friendly, helpful, and approachable. Good work ethics were recognized when appropriate. Benefits even for those on lower end of wage scale.

    Cons

More often than it should have, there was a lack of communication and agreement between management of different departments.

    Advice to Management

Encourage more communication and team work between management. There were times that felt like different departments were working against each other.

    "Needs better structure"

I worked at BMW of San Francisco full-time

    Pros

Management tries to do their best with improving processes, however, things tend to get scattered and unorganized. Benefits are decent; competitive if you compare to other dealerships. HR Department is kind and approachable. I feel the HR Manager holds down the office the best. And definitely there are opportunities for growth if you really show top work ethic and reliability.

    Cons

LOTS of employee turnover... but then again that is the nature of the auto industry. Salaries aren't great. And internal processes tend to get confusing.

    Advice to Management

Try to encourage more performance improvement programs. Some phenomenal employees have left that some customers depended on.
