I worked at BNP Paribas full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    1) Work life balance, partly because of the French 2) Relatively low stress for a job in banking

    Cons

    1) French gets advantage in everything such as promotion and higher pay 2) Low salary compared to the industry for non-French employees 3) Apparently, management is running a campaign to promote women. So, we see that women are getting an advantage ahead of men in promotion. (To make it clear, French men is still higher than non-French women in the hierarchy.)

    Advice to Management

Napoleon built its empire based on meritocracy, not favouritism.

I have been working at BNP Paribas full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, work/life balance. My hours are pretty stable. - I get in at 7:30 and able to be out of the door by 5p. They have a generous vacation package and encourage employees to utilize their vacation time.

    Cons

Poor Management Lack of respect for employees Underrepresented minorities are treated like 3rd class citizens Non-French/British are treated like 2nd class citizens Mobility is preached, but, is not available to everyone (no feedback from internal interviews to help employees grow) Poor formal and cross-Training opportunities Siloed departments Poor long-term strategic planning Poor processes and systems Chaotic,... reactive environment Known for CSR, but, does an awful job in this are compared to other banks (they must have paid someone to get the recognition)

    Advice to Management

Senior leadership is awful. Overhaul leadership and provide opportunities to everyone, think outside of the box.

I worked at BNP Paribas full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The bank offers decent pay, and average benefits, along with there being *some* teams that have *some* exit opportunities. Decent work-life balance due to limited deal-flow. 25+ days vacation.

    Cons

The US division of BNP Paribas is an absolute shambles. There is no direction regionally or nationally, with constant reshuffles of key staff and strategy. The bank's current (unofficial) policy is to churn-and-burn junior bankers, and hire senior bankers with existing relationships. In doing so, the bank neglects to develop junior employees, and those who are interested in banking as a career quickly lose... motivation.

    Advice to Management

Management should choose a path of becoming either: a) an investment bank that invests in growth, and sell-off the "cash-cows" while they still have value or b) establish themselves as the premier corporate bank and focus on flow products. An equity research platform would add value.
