Actually listen to your employees. Stop the pointless games and backstabbing.

    Pros

Pay, most employees (conductors and engineers) are great people

    Cons

What's a holiday, or weekend? On call 24/7, if you work the road where the pay is you're home just as much as you're away in a motel.

    Advice to Management

Trainmen, the guys actually moving freight are more than just a number. Great to see you guys get paid holidays and salaried a matching 401k

    Pros

Competitive pay; reasonable work week depending on department. Meet some great people.

    Cons

Scheduled employees work holidays, shiftwork and sometimes late shifts whether or not you are needed; will not hesitate to lay of scheduled employees but will bring them back if necessary. Major layoff for exempt eployees just occurred. Nepotism and favoritism are the norm. Opportunities for upward movement are limited

    Advice to Management

Look to qualified employees to fill roles and job postings instead if the unqualified people that you have worked with. Align the requirements in the job posting and the qualifications of the person awarded the job.

I have been working at BNSF Railway full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It'll definitely pay the bills, put the kids thru college, and let you have disposable income, if you manage your money right.

    Cons

You will have no schedule what so ever. If someone asks you if you'll be off next weekend for a BBQ, your response will be "I'll let you know that morning". Dr.'s appointments? Good luck. Baseball games, anniversaries, birthdays, ya right. That's where the prepare to be single part comes in. It takes a strong person to stay in a relationship with a railroader.

    Advice to Management

Grow some ethics. Take safety serious all the time, not only when it's convenient for you, or when business is slow and management is trying to justify their jobs by testing.

    Pros

    Cons

I was not paid a competitive salary and the company is drastically cutting costs, which has impacted the work environment. It is a very quiet and uptight atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Reward the people who work hard
