Senior leadership get "it". And they communicate their views easily, company wide

The message from senior leadership is lost on middle management

    I worked at BP full-time

    Pros

Excellent benefits, on campus amenities, smart employees.

    Cons

Not all employees treated fairly. Company will promote Managers too quickly without providing appropriate leadership training. There were not many if any learning and development opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Learn to take the values seriously and hold all accountable.

I have been working at BP full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great people
    - It is a very collaborative work environment, people really try to work together
    - Safety is an important aspect of the company's culture, they really care about their people and their impact on the communities they work in
    - They are really good about allowing for a worklife balance, maintaining a 9/80 work schedule in Upstream, and giving flexibilty to people with children, just need to make sure you get your work done.

    Cons

    - Tough place to implement new programs and changes, due to the size of the company
    - You need to be patient when trying to implement change, and be willing to socialize that change with a lot of different people (it can be quite complex and challenging)
    - BP can be quite complex and bureacratic when dealing with higher level issues

    Advice to Management

Keep it as simple and steamlined as possible. Don't over focus on short term market issues.

    Pros

BP is a great company they treat people well and respect work life balance. Opportunities are opened to all who commit and demonstrate capability. The company focus on the full package rather than on base salary alone. They operate in many countries so there is opportunity for mobilisation, but it's not a guarantee.

    Cons

It has been thru many changes lately in terms of structure but with the aim to make it a better and more efficient company. You will need to cope well with change and adapt in order to be successful.

    Advice to Management

As an HR advisor my advise if for managers to work on developing their people skills and communication with their teams. Also continue to listen to peole via the employee surveys and opinion.

    Pros

Ability to work with the best minds in the industry.

Great work flexibility which is great for someone who lives in Luanda.

Fantastic reward package as compared to most companies in Luanda.

    Cons

Western way of doing things still see as the right way. Work is cascaded down from the centre sometimes without much consideration about how things work in MoW countries.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.
