I have been working at BP full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits (pension, 401k matching, health, vision dental, FMLA plan, etc...). They also have competitive pay , bonus plan, and stock options.

    Cons

Constantly reorganizing and laying people off. My business unit has Reorg'ed 4 times in the last 5 years. Always concerned about your job and cannot build any continuity on your teams.

    Advice to Management

Stop chocking off your employees with continual restructuring. Do not have confidence in the long term viability of the company when you sell off assets and restructure 4 out of 5 years.

I have been working at BP full-time

    Pros

    Benefits, job security, work/life balance

    Cons

responds more slowly to market than smaller O&G companies. Compensation during upswings is less than industry.

    Advice to Management

Don't let Exxon buy you out.

I have been working at BP full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is very good compared to industry.

    Cons

Milk bottles have longer shelf lives.

    Advice to Management

Middle management is hogging all development and cross opportunities. You are not managing your talent pipeline.

I have been working at BP full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great folks and teammates. Flexible hours and culture that allows for schedule flexibility. Challenging work and a lot to learn from projects and people. You can make personal friends easily; not just have colleagues.

    Cons

Networking and high visibility presence is a requirement for advancement. Networking, speaking at meetings, and taking projects outside your job/area is a must for promotion and "good grades". Hard work and quality products are valued as mediocre delivery.

    Advice to Management

Value hard work that enables silent and smooth running. Speaking out for the sake of participation is not a value, but "image management".

    Pros

BP offers great benefits, work life balance and salaries.

I have been working at BP full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Decent pay, bonuses, and benefits

    Cons

BP North America is clearly in bad shape. Several "Re-Orgs" in just the past 5 years, with most of the talented people having already left for better opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Get back to being a company that cares about people, and growth. It is pretty obvious what direction the company is headed when the only solutions you will consider are "zero cost options".
