I have been working at BSH Home Appliances USA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Lots of reviews here talking about the German culture. It's a German company so you will definitely meet people from Germany and be exposed to some German culture. HQ in Germany has oversight on a lot but that does not mean things take a long time or do not happen. If you want something done, and you are persistent and make your case, it will move forward at a fast pace. "Politics" don't really exist when it comes to getting your work done, like some have stated; rather, it's about "use-cases" to execs and HQ so that you can convince them to devote resources with reason, and not blindly. Management is accessible and friendly. Environment is collaborative and engaging if you put in the effort. HR is great with support. Definitely working to improve employee engagement and support.

    Cons

Silos do exist, but they are slowly being connected. If you push, you will see better results individually. Like everything else in life, persistence is key. A bit behind in some aspects of business, but quickly catching up. Again, if you're smart about the way you approach new solutions/ideas, you can definitely make an impact. Take a good look at resource allocation and make some changes. Some balancing needs to be done by paying attention which dept. truly impact your bottom line vs. what you're currently heavily invested in.

    Pros

Average compensation and benefits. Good bonus system.

    Cons

I have been with BSH for over 5 years. Germans from Munich come before Germans, who come before sons of Germans who speak German, who come before sons of Germans who don't speak German, and so on. Those not from a German background have limited opportunities and are often discredited in public. Ideas are supposed to come from the top. Anyone else must keep head down and comply. The problem is so deep that once I had a VP coming to my office and measuring the office to make sure I was not 'above' him. Threats and intimidation is a constant and opportunities are only for those who 'belong' to the Motherland.

    Pros

Large, international company; Irvine is nice office environment; Irvine business casual dress code; education reimbursement program, good job security; average pay, benefits, holidays and vacation time

    Cons

Difficult for many departments to do what is best for US/Canada employees because of push-back from German headquarters; many foreign expats in leadership positions

I have been working at BSH Home Appliances USA full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

If you want a boring 9-5 office job — this is it. It is relatively safe employment because they have lots of money to waste.

    Cons

New CEO thinks very highly of himself. He surrounds himself with Yes-men and Yes-women. He hires friends and relatives of his Yes-men — really?! Typical German company where everything happens at a snail’s pace. Change takes a minimum of 10 years to implement. New strategy to “regionalize” really means to centralize even more. Regional Mgmt has installed new Heads of Supply Chain, HR, IT, etc and guess how those departments are now doing?!

    Pros

Good industry. Good coffee. And a company that makes solid products. They truly do make the best dishwashers in the world.

    Cons

A lot of politics in the office, you have to know someone German in order to really move up. They don't promote from within. And if you want to get anywhere in your career, you basically have to spend a year or two in Berlin
