    Pros

Start out great. Reasonable expectations with a great salary.

    Cons

If you make a mistake there is no correcting there is just yelling and finger pointing.

    Advice to Management

You have good people running your restuarants on a local level These people have been in the community and are building relations (or have built relations) in the area. When you keep putting new people in the restaurant you're not doing any good for the business. It takes time to build a partnership-yes even with you Buca. Your food is good but it'snot great. People will still go to the local Mom and Pop eatery where the food is ok because the proprietor and the staff are consistent and friendly.

I have been working at BUCA full-time

    Pros

    - Freedom to get your job done with minimal interruption from Operations team and Corporate office. You'll essentially be an office of one.

    - 12 days of PTO/year starting out. Accrued one day/month. Holidays off.

    - CRM (Tripleseat) and Booking software (Opentable) are effective and easy to use.

    - Ability to be out of the office as much as necessary for sales calls, etc. Not staring at a screen all day.

    - Selling celebrations is easy and fun.

    - Corporate support via a large marketing team and a national sales office (NSO can be a blessing and a curse, see below) to take your calls when you're away.

    - Work/life balance is great. Schedule is Mon-Fri 9-6. Not required to be present for events.

    Cons

    - The company itself is a little shady. Does not pay vendor bills on time, for example.

    - You will not get a raise to your base salary. They consider any additional commission you earn for the year to be your raise. Negotiate the highest base salary you can.

    - SMs do not receive quarterly bonuses like other managers, despite the fact that we bring in the sales.

    - Communication is not always great from NSO - online orders not sent to the store, for example. This is getting better lately.

    - Little leadership. Not a con for me, but would be for those who need a lot of guidance or feedback.

    - Not much opportunity to advance.

    - Sales goals are getting somewhat arbitrary. Used to be a straight 5% higher than the period last year, but now is more complicated and nonsensical at times.

    - Health insurance is expensive and not very good.

    Advice to Management

Sales Managers should be part of the bonus program.

I have been working at BUCA (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay isn't bad at all but not worth it to stay in such a toxic environment.

    Cons

Horrible culture, restaurant is dirty, in constant disrepair, management is illequipped. It starts at the top and snowballs from there.

    Advice to Management

Doesn't matter, they lose GREAT employees all the time because they just don't care....to them, there's always another warm body to fill the gap.

    Pros

Good food, decent hours. Interesting concept
Lots of selection pretty good managers to work with

    Cons

Seems like there is some sort of disconnect between stores and higher ups. Too much confusion as to direction.
    WAY too many coupons

    Advice to Management

Stop micro managing unless you're willing to listen to the people on the front line. Learn to follow up and follow through

I worked at BUCA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

High Salary Scale. General quality of hourly employees is quite good. Food quality is good, Recipe standardization and computer systems are relatively good.

    Cons

Be prepared to make everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) in your life secondary to this job. Open 365 days a year, and you will never get a holiday off. EVER. Salary is supposed to be augmented with what is promised to be a handsome bonus structure, but upper management was constantly changing the qualifications to the point that I never received a single bonus in the entire year I was employed there. Facility and equipment was very run down, and getting replacements for even critical items was like pulling teeth.

    Advice to Management

When you are negotiating salary, you need an ironclad agreement, IN WRITING. And don't expect to be compensated for relocating. I had to jump through hoops just to get reimbursed for the moving truck. They expected me to eat the cost of breaking my old lease to be able to report for work in the new town.
