I have been working at BUCA part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flexible Schedule 4-hour shifts can be 100$ nights Family Style servings make bigger parties a piece of cake. best co-workers ever!

    Cons

COUPONS, during the slower months Buca loves to send millions of coupons. we get some business but the end up paying less than half their tab and tipping poorly on the after coupon price. A forty dollar tab turns to eighteen dollars sixty cents then you get like 1.40 dollars off that check... BOO!! it happens but its rare but when...

I worked at BUCA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good food, decent hours. Interesting concept Lots of selection pretty good managers to work with

    Cons

Seems like there is some sort of disconnect between stores and higher ups. Too much confusion as to direction. WAY too many coupons

    Advice to Management

Stop micro managing unless you're willing to listen to the people on the front line. Learn to follow up and follow through

I have been working at BUCA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Delicious food every day. Great support from the CEO, HR, and DVP's. Encouraged to manage your way to get the results desired. Encouraged to use your PTO.

    Cons

It can be hard to get approval for larger R&M even if it's critical. (Air conditioning) Work ALL holidays. Be prepared to do 12+ hour shifts on most. Last minute coupon offers that leave miniscule amounts of time to order/inform for proper execution. (Not all offers, but some)

    Advice to Management

Return to compensating your FOH and HOH staff with family meal and trainer meals. You are in a great position as a desirable place to work for highly skilled servers/line cooks, a reduction in passive incentives could be the difference in retaining or losing them. You need to continue to attract the top tier workers for those positions. You don't want to become an Applebee's.

I have been working at BUCA for more than 3 years

    Pros

The food is great and the atmosphere is awesome. You meet friends for life, unless you are management, then you get fired for socializing. If you are a server, then the money is good. If you are in college, they are very good at being flexible around your classes. The company puts a lot of effort into training new employees as well, so no one is just thrown into their role.

    Cons

This is a terribly run corporation. Corporate Buca doesn't seem to have a clue as to what actually goes on in the stores. They make changes company-wide, instead of by region, so the same expensive drink they dream up for Las Vegas gets sold in podunk little towns and they get blamed for not selling it. Stores are only allowed to spend a percentage of their sales on supplies, and are always running out of everything....

    Advice to Management

Promote from within!! Reward great employees instead of bringing other people in to do the job they are already doing, especially when they are excelling at it. Let stores order what they need to run a business. Stop making menu changes a nation-wide thing. Stop sending out so many coupons!! Fix online ordering and reservation systems.

I have been working at BUCA part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - During peak seasonal times, can be a wildly exciting experience for large groups to engage in excessive eating and drinking, like a medieval feast - Large checks and expensive drinks lead to high check averages for serving staff - Opportunity for growth in responsibilities and great overall learning experience in customer service

    Cons

Unfortunately, Management is overly concerned with profit margin and overheads, and not on guest experience. This creates ineffectiveness for servers and disallows them from anticipating & acting on basic guest needs to better serve their clientele. In our three-story restaurant, they have removed the floor servers' dishwashers, forced customers to ask specifically for butter, refills, extra sauces, to-go boxes & bags,...

    Advice to Management

Create new and seasonally relevant dishes and drinks to attract the crowds! No one wants to come back for the same bland dishes if you don't switch up the menu atleast once a year! Ex. Spring dishes should focus on fresh salads, light pizzas and antipasti varieties, not meatball-paste cannolis and hot pepper spice pasta dishes... And a chocolate manhattan, seriously? what demographic is THAT?

I have been working at BUCA part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is so much passion that goes into working in a restaurant not only in the kitchen but making sure that every guest that comes through the door becomes part of the Buca family. It's easy to go into work and leave, but it isn't too common to find a place that stays with you after you're gone. Buca leaves an impression and makes you feel happy to be a part.

    Cons

The stress of your company limiting hours to a maximum of 30 hours a week limits the ability of loyal employees and brings hardship when it comes to keeping the good, hardworking employees. It's hard to be a "Buca family" when we all can't be there working as a team. Also, there is the ten coupons constantly out in rotation at a time to guarantee each table has at least three...

    Advice to Management

Management at my particular location is so supportive and cares about their employees and keeping that feeling of being part of the Buca family. I would say, however, our corporate office has never actually worked in a restaurant before and doesn't understand the impossible standards they have put on management as well as lower employees.

Paid a decent amount to be a server. Flexible with schedules. Good training program

    Cons

Corporate is stingy. Too many coupons and promotions, making it difficult for servers sometimes. Always changing something around.

I have been working at BUCA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay is good as is the management on the restaurant level. Reataurant was closer to home as opposed to my previous restaurant.

    Cons

Everything else! Management is expected to adhere to impossible labor percentages, standard practice is one cook in the morning and two in the evening to make the labor goals. Your labor is also based on net sales rather than gross, when you have $500 in coupons in a day that is $500 less in your gross sales which in turn makes your labor appear to be higher than it is. If the...

    Advice to Management

Allow your managers the opportunity to actually manage the restaurants, rather than micro manage their every move. Stop spending so much money on pointless and cheesy marketing schemes and actually invest some money back into your restaurants.

    Pros

This is a great role for someone looking for an introductory Sales Position. With drive and passion, you will grow quickly. The concept is known for their celebratory nature and if one is on board with that, you will fit in nicely.

    Cons

The company needs Regional Sales Managers to train and develop their people. The corporate hold is to far removed to make a difference. The control over coupons, marketing, comps, etc., is too strict. The implementation of Regional Management for Sales would increase communication, processes and marketing implementation
