I have been working at Babcock International Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Diverse opportunities for those who grasp them. Senior Management are open to ideas to change and forward thinking employees have lots of opportunity to make a difference and to be recognised for doing so.

    Cons

The company is in a transitional state given it’s stellar growth and future ambitions. Barriers to mobility exist, but this is changing.

    Advice to Management

Continue to commit to necessary change and ‘one company’ philosophy.

I have been working at Babcock International Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company recognises those individuals who share the same morals as the company and help to develop you further. Each job can be completely unique with any number of challenges that will provide you with responsibility, experience and reward.

    Cons

Being such a large organisation can initially be overwhelming. Stick with it initially, you will be surprised at how quickly you catch up!

    Advice to Management

Take on responsibility wherever you can as this demonstrates your commitment to learn, but also your ability to develop as an individual. There are opportunities across all of the business and being open to change or stepping out of your comfort zone will certainly help you move about, learn new skills and gain invaluable knowledge of the business.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

I joined on the Graduate Scheme and have been able to work in a wide variety of areas within the company in a short space of time. The company have provided me with excellent training opportunities which have really enabled me to further my professional development and achieve career progression.
The working hours are favourable, having an earlier start and finish really helps you get the most out of living in the South West and getting plenty of time at the beaches after work!
The graduate scheme pays well for the area and opportunities for steady pay progression are available.

    Cons

Nothing of note at this time.

I have been working at Babcock International Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working within the Marine sector of Babcock International as a young professional engineer, allows opportunities to work on very large and complex interdisciplinary projects - across many different platforms. The Babcock graduate scheme is accredited by professional institutes and is placement based, empowering you to move about the business to gain experience both in sites across the UK and abroad.
The graduate scheme is geared to fully support you in your goal to achieve chartered status with your professional body; this is done through objective based reviews throughout your placements to tie in with the UK spec. The flexibility of the scheme enables you to organise your own placements and work with your managers to ensure that you can tailor your work to meet all necessary competencies.
Finally, with a very good starting salary, higher than the UK’s average graduate wage, the company also have an excellent performance based pay progression for your time on the scheme until you become chartered. With good pay, good hours and an excellent graduate community – you can easily set up a good work/life balance.

    Cons

With Babcock being a huge company, it can be difficult to get anything completed that falls outside of any process/procedures, which can be frustrating to solve.
Another downside of working for Babcock Marine can be the necessity to travel to other sites, which can become tedious with sitting in traffic! However, you’ll never be put out of pocket for these journeys and it is good to see the different business units.

    Advice to Management

Better inter business unit communication and streamlining of middle management.

I have been working at Babcock International Group full-time

    Pros

The company is expanding internationally opening up the possibilities to not only travel worldwide on business but also to undertake roles overseas.

They are having a massive recruitment drive due to an ageing workforce. This means that there are great opportunities for quick progression up the career ladder. With more innovative ideas, graduates and apprentices are encouraged to look at new ways to improve systems and processes so your work can make a difference.

Great starting salaries, pension schemes, company share scheme, etc. – not many companies in the South West will offer these.

Flexible start/finish hours which is great for popping to the bank after work or for early morning/late afternoon appointments. As long as I complete my core hours, management allow you to organise your own time accordingly.

If you are someone who wants to continue with your personal development, the company are very proactive about staff progression and learning. They will assist you with further learning and propel you forward with further education such as chartership qualifications.

    Cons

Implementing certain changes can take time however given the scale of the business this is understandable.
