I have been working at Badger Meter full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have been allowed to take my business in the direction that I believe we will be the most successful, without the "boss" constant looking over my shoulder. Pay is good and the opportunities to grow is available to all

    Cons

Badger Meter is the leader in Utilities markets and seems to set back and enjoy their accomplishments in these markets. We always point to our best accomplishments. We as team need to work together at pulling the other markets in to gain the Leader role in these markets. We need to meet the markets needs in meter design and function. Development in new and updated products is a continue effort at Badger Meter but, takes too long.

    Advice to Management

    Lets grow beyond all expectation!!!

I worked at Badger Meter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are excellent (paid short term disability, good health/dental/vision, fitness reimbursement/on-site gym in MKE and Racine, 401k match + DC Contribution, tuition reimbursement among others). The company is growingly rapidly and the size of the company allows you to know the employees on a more intimate level while being exposed to a wide variety of projects. Opportunities for growth may require some lateral movement to other areas, but they are there for those who look.

    Cons

The times are changing and there is an imminent culture shift beginning to take place. Badger Meter is a small/mid-sized company that is trying desperately to be a large company--less the resources. There is a strong sense of entitlement within some groups, and the organization is bleeding millennial workers at a rapid pace. Managers tend to make decisions that will make them more likeable amongst their peers while refusing to hear feedback from the individual contributor doing the work, regardless of the inefficiencies they cause. In a few years I imagine the organization will be a bunch of director-level employees high-fiving themselves regarding how awesome their titles are while failing to deliver any real, measurable results.

    Advice to Management

Engagement surveys or focus groups broken down by manager/departments would be helpful in measuring the true effectiveness of management. Over the years I’ve seen many departments bleed employees and when executives were provided with the data they tended to air on the side that the employees leaving were not valuable to begin with. A problem will not go away if you continue to be in denial and refuse to assertively address it.

    Pros

Good benefits, family oriented, friendly people, gained some life long friends. Sad that a couple new hires are the reason others are leaving

    Cons

Favoritism to some employees, new hourly employee gets treated better than other hourly employees that have seniority in the department

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to review their managers. Company is losing dedicated hardworkers due to new management that came in favored new employees they hired. There was lack of communication in the department & it's driving people to leave the company.

I have been working at Badger Meter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Pay is fair if you fight for yourself. Had a great boss at the time.

    Cons

Lots of changes that were being implemented without proper management. I was hired on as a temp for 3 months, but that turned into 10 months with no health care and no real answers.

    Advice to Management

Grow a backbone and represent your people

I have been working at Badger Meter full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

What really makes working at Badger Meter a great experience is the opportunity to work alongside some really genuine at the core people that really care about their work. The culture does take a little bit to get used to but once you are adjusted it provides a very comfortable environment to hone your skills.

    Cons

Because it is such a great place to work, many of the people here have been here for 10+ years in the office and 20+ years in the factory... This makes advancement within BMI a bit more difficult but you have to just enjoy what you do each day, work hard and the right opportunity will present itself.

    Advice to Management

Corporate Culture is good here but it could always use a boost by having more employee activities at a department level. Company-wide Badger does a great job of participating in charities, walk/run events, company picnic, etc.... but it would be great to have more opportunities for team building within departments and groups.

I worked at Badger Meter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good company to work for overall. Not many people work a lot of overtime, management mostly laid back compared to most places. This is the kind of place to retire to.

    Cons

Not a good place if you want growth potential. Senior management is very clicky.
Low accountability and frustrating when trying to make progress. Engineering is very unstructured due to senior management's lack of commitment to processes even though they say they are. You better love your job because it's unlikely there will be growth opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Provide growth opportunities to retain good people.

I worked at Badger Meter full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Cafeteria has good food, gym is convenient, overall friendly atmosphere. CEO does entertaining presentations. Cool new learning center.... it impresses customers.

    Cons

Too many personal agendas and egos in management. Never know who to trust. Healthcare benefits aren't the best but other benefits make up for it.

    Advice to Management

Asking for opinions doesn't make you weak.

I have been working at Badger Meter (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Nice facility that is maintained

    Cons

Company is structured to fail. CEO makes all decisions and direct reports are afraid to speak up.
Middle management has no clue what they are doing and engineering does not know how to get a product into the market. Worked there for 5 years and the only product launched was one where Badger bought the technology.

    Advice to Management

Blow it up - Start over
