I have been working at Badger Meter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Benefits
    people are friendly
    flex hours
    product training availability
understands & believes family is most important

    Cons

Not a lot of room for advancement in most departments
certain executives don't show they care about certain departments
Favoritism by department managers towards some people in their department
Lack of structure in some departments

    Advice to Management

When a new manager is hired, I think it's a good idea to check in with the employees that were there previously to see how things are going. Department managers should communicate with everyone in the department instead of certain people. Cross training should be a must in departments & when all employees have the same job title, they should all be treated equally & fair. They should all know & share in the day to day tasks. Everyone in the department should have the same learning opportunities as others with the same job title & description.

I worked at Badger Meter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good company to work for overall. Not many people work a lot of overtime, management mostly laid back compared to most places. This is the kind of place to retire to.

    Cons

Not a good place if you want growth potential. Senior management is very clicky.
Low accountability and frustrating when trying to make progress. Engineering is very unstructured due to senior management's lack of commitment to processes even though they say they are. You better love your job because it's unlikely there will be growth opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Provide growth opportunities to retain good people.

I worked at Badger Meter full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Cafeteria has good food, gym is convenient, overall friendly atmosphere. CEO does entertaining presentations. Cool new learning center.... it impresses customers.

    Cons

Too many personal agendas and egos in management. Never know who to trust. Healthcare benefits aren't the best but other benefits make up for it.

    Advice to Management

Asking for opinions doesn't make you weak.

    Pros

    Nice facility that is maintained

    Cons

Company is structured to fail. CEO makes all decisions and direct reports are afraid to speak up.
Middle management has no clue what they are doing and engineering does not know how to get a product into the market. Worked there for 5 years and the only product launched was one where Badger bought the technology.

    Advice to Management

Blow it up - Start over

I worked at Badger Meter full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's run by the CEO as a very small business despite being a great medium size company. This gives the workplace a very family friendly and team oriented environment. People generally really like working here.

    Cons

People stay around because they like working there, meaning room for advancement isn't always a possibility in some departments, which is unfortunate if you want to work there for a long time and take on more responsibility and work to advance.

    Advice to Management

For the most part, keep doing what you are doing but give more dynamic work to the more "lower-level" workers to develop them more. The interns are capable of a lot more than they are given.

I have been working at Badger Meter full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Badger Meter lives up to the excellent reputation it has in the Milwaukee community. It is dedicated to having a positive work environment for its employees and the communication between upper management and the rest of the company is amazing. All changes are communicated promptly. Management works well together with all employees. CEO is very outspoken but that is a great thing! He doesn't expect people to agree with what he says and gives employees plenty of opportunity to speak up if they do disagree with something. Very open door policy here.

    Cons

I haven't been here long enough to know for sure, but like many companies of this size, I'm not sure there is much opportunity for advancement, but they make up for that with training and other education programs that are available.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the open communication, it is great!

    Pros

Great benefits, great people to work with. If you are young and out of college, this is the company for you - lot's of potential opportunities there.

    Cons

The pay and benefits at Badger Meter are fairly low if you are shopping around. Also don't expect a ticker tape parade when you leave after long term employment. Feel they could recognize and appreciate their long term employees better.
