Don't engage with the customers/work without question/know it ALL today/be robotic/accept disrespect without thought.

    Pros

The customers are lovely, devoted, and friendly. Nice store. If you enjoy working many hours, this is for you.

    Cons

The expectation of knowing how to operate their antiquated system as quickly as those who've been there for years. The pretension that "we're family owned for years, so we train you to keep you." They fire quickly, and for minutiae. The tremendous amount of excessive work & paperwork/trash due to carbon copies. Don't ask "why" to understand your job better, just DO it! Nasty talk about new hires. Mounds of unnecessary paperwork and processes, but nothing nice is ever done to boost morale. Working EVERY weekend and holiday from brunch time to past dinner time.

    Cheating Salespeople Wanted

May 17, 2012 - Design Consultant in Pinecrest, FL

    Pros

Variety of vendors was the best option provided together with an excellent sales manager; however they've invested millions of dollars on what Carl's left behind and they cannot come afloat. They've managed to get their manufacturers to advertise their own products and relieve their overhead.

    Cons

They fired all their best talented designers because they wanted cheating salespeople with or without design ability; they're becoming another El Dorado Furniture in their turnover of sales associate. Their medical insurance has a very high deductible. They provide no base salary plus commissions. It's becoming a war ground among sales people because they cannot be called designers any longer. They rely solely on walk-in customers and do not target the high end foreign community. They will work their employees to the ground with no recognition especially the female Baer

Family Company that treats employees fairly.

    Pros

Stage is well set for profitable earnings. All bases are well covered for selling products in well maintained showrooms. Management, admin staff, and design/furniture sales professionals are respectful of each other most of the time. Bad eggs fire themselves.

    Cons

Constant advertised sales. Too many, too complicated, too misleading for shoppers. Delivery issues that upset customers with damages and late schedules. Daily operation of this magnitude in retail furnishings is never smooth. Management decisions are not always easy, but usually reflect the big picture of keeping the company going and employing several hundred people.

A Great Place for Well Experienced Salesperson

    Pros

    - There is potential to earn money if you have prior sales experience - The typical clientele has disposable income to spend and will buy more than one piece of furniture - There is a wide variety of products to sell at various price points - There isn't any show-rooming. Customers couldn't find the furniture online and use their cellphones to find better prices.

    Cons

    - Other salespeople are cut-throat and are only out for themselves, in other words, very competitive - If you don't know how to handle walk-in customers and gain trust quickly you can lose out on sales quickly. I saw too many salespeople that couldn't assess people's body language, personal space, and attitudes. Customers would literally run away from salespeople. - Weekdays can be slow, and everyone has to work on weekends. - There were little to no bonuses around Christmas or end of the year. I was offered a $30 bonus which we all chipped in to the manager to have a Christmas party at the manager's house. - There is no overtime. If you are not selling you are expected to spend your life at the store. - The furniture industry is very sensitive to economic factors. The housing bubble decimated this industry and Baer's Furniture wasn't aware of the future trends in 2008. The company tried to rapidly expand by buying land instead of holding onto liquid capital before the housing bubble crashed. This mismanagement of capital hurt the company

    Pros

They are family oriented, and makes you comfortable.

    Cons

Honestly there is no room for growth. They pay, to me, sucks. Everyone gets a 3% raise at the end of the year, so If i worked harder then everyone and the next person doesn't we still get the same raise, that's not fair. The employees gossip way too much and nobody minds their own business, Making the work environment very tense at times.

    Pros

Opportunity for growth at personal level, expand self-employablity and clientele, perform professional designer work and service, no micro-management whatsoever -none!

    Cons

The oldest designers have a creative way of "cheating" their way to establish written sales and orders, the medical insurance has a very high deductible, the commission rate is low versus Ethan Allen which starts at 8%, there is no base salary established.
