Creative powerhouse in the middle of America
Mar 20, 2017 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Creative tools and creative people are at my disposal to help me achieve personal success as well as deliver incredible work to clients. There is no limit to achievement, and roles are flexible to utilize employees' talents for individual projects and clients. I've found a place, right in the middle of America, where I can see myself flourishing creatively. Having spent the early part of my career in Dallas and Chicago, and working on global brands at huge agencies, I can confidently say that BL offers all the resources of a big-city agency, but with none of the pretension. There's no peacocking in Nebraska – just honest, hard-working, creative humans who want to craft an authentic life and do good work.
Cons
The only downside I see to working at Bailey Lauerman is that we have to work hard to break the idea that we're hillbillies in a flyover state. Which, living in Nebraska, is something I have to defend to my "big-city" friends.

Terrible Experience at Bailey Lauerman
Mar 26, 2015 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-Brand name clients -A few nice people Some of the people are good hearted and hard working individuals. There was a handful of people that I could confide in and I met some great friends during my short time at the agency.
Cons
-The CEO -The CMO -Salary -Benefits The CEO and the CMO are the main problems of the agency. No one in the agency trusts them and it's so hard to believe anything that they say. There is also a ton of hand holding you have to give to the leadership team. You literally have to hunt people down to see if they can make a meeting because they are "too busy" to accept the invite in their email. Very big egos with not much to show for it. The CMO is one of the worst people I've ever met. She is mean, deceiving and always has a "my way or the highway" mentality. I don't know how someone can treat people the way that she does and sleep soundly at night. She is one of those people that will be nice to your face but will throw you under the bus the second you get in her way. She is the main reason why I left. I left a really good job and even took a small pay cut to come to Bailey Lauerman. It was one of the worst career decisions I could have ever made. I think the agency used to be a great place to work, but unfortunately people are jumping ship and leaving left and right.

At Bailey Lauerman, we believe feedback—from our clients, our industry peers, our team and each other—is truly a gift. I want to personally apologize that your experience during your short time with our team was not what you had hoped—and certainly not in alignment with how we want our people to feel. Based on the input you’ve provided, we plan to make significant changes to our onboarding process as a way to clarify expectations, roles and responsibilities. We hope you have found a role that is a better fit for you personally. Pros
High opportunity if you are a self starter and are able to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Great employees, probably the best I've worked with. Challenging - we have high profile clients and they will push you to your max (which can be good and bad). In the end you get to create wonderful work that will be seen on the national stage. Flexible hours - while we are known for working a lot, I love that I can take off for family things w/o anyone pushing back.
Cons
High work volume - currently we don't have a 9-5 schedule and the company expects a lot out of its staff. You have to put your roadblocks up on what you are willing to work. Leadership is in and out of office which can cause them to lose touch with the day to day. Process needs to be redefined in the agency. Sometimes it seems like we are working harder not smarter. There is an opportunity to come in and help shape this.

A place to learn, grow, do great work, and have fun.
Aug 13, 2018 - Anonymous Employee in Omaha, NERecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Amazing team of talented people in every department - People support each other; when someone is overloaded, people step up to help carry the burden - Some of the most brilliant creative minds in the biz doing top-notch work - Unlimited days off (a 10-day MINIMUM), and you're not looked down upon for taking time off for vacation (within reason) or mental health days - Client leadership team cares about their teams and works hard to see that people work on clients they enjoy and are skilled at - From the top-down, the having fun at work is made a priority alongside great client work - Great office location; plenty of people in the office to go to after work happy hour with and plenty of nearby places to do it
Cons
- A lot of long days (and weeks), but welcome to the advertising industry

Pros
Bailey Lauerman offers a complete benefit package with good insurance rates. Unlimited paid time off is a great perk, as well as the office closures for the Fourth of July and Christmas. BL has many great employees and can be a fun environment to work in. The new office is gorgeous and has a great view of downtown. The agency represents many big names clients that you get to support and develop relationships with.
Cons
There is a major disconnect between all departments across the agency and communication is a big problem. There are many tenured employees that really care about the agency's future, but their concerns and feedback seem to fall on deaf ears with the higher ups. It doesn't seem that there is a clear vision for the agency and its employees. Most employees are overworked without having any clear expectations and then are criticized when they fail to meet expectations. Pay seems out of touch with other agencies. Turnover has been a major issue for the past couple of years.

CEO
Dear Current Employee, We’re sorry you feel this way about your agency. We say ‘your agency’ because one of the unique things about BL is that it is an ESOP. Which means it is employee owned. And as owners we all have an obligation to improve our company by giving and receiving direct, honest feedback to continue to make this an even better place to work. If you have ideas for improvement, we would love to hear them. We hope you would feel empowered to take your concerns directly to any member of the leadership team so that they can be addressed. In the last year we’ve restructured to create clearer authority and accountability beyond ‘the higher ups’ and to improve collaboration and communication. This is all to help create a culture of shared ownership, which it is up to each of us to play a role in. Just last week we all got together and recognized some of our staff for the great work they’ve done, and promotions they’ve earned. We’ve introduced a peer to peer feedback and recognition system. Our team deserves recognition for great work. Compensation increases are a part of recognizing great work, and are based on achievements and results of each individual. It is truly your agency, and we welcome your help through open, honest and direct communication. Thank you, Greg Andersen, CEO

Good shop. Good people. Good clients.
Aug 30, 2013 - Art DirectorRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
· Creative truly does drive the agency. · Lot of talented people. · Good client roster, national accounts. · Plenty of creative opportunities.
Cons
· Certain creative leaders frustratingly indecisive. (Others great.) · And so....process / direction at times ambiguous at best. · They sometimes (fairly regularly, IMO) fall into the trap of the louder you are the more you're listened to (regardless of quality of idea).

Good Company Making A Great Comeback
Mar 22, 2017 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Hardworking and talented individuals across all disciplines; excited about current changes happening within the agency. New CEO is open, transparent, values great work and great people which is exciting and refreshing. Benefits are outstanding and optimistic about the future of the agency.
Cons
Previous management didn't value employees and morale dropped significantly. Some departments are understaffed so heavier workloads and longer days are not uncommon.

Went from good, to bad, to worse...
May 17, 2015 - Senior Creative in Omaha, NERecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
First, I love a lot of the people. I have friends here and generally people work hard. Although the agency is an old legacy traditional agency (ie. tagline-y creative and PR), I feel like most of the staff enjoy themselves. Definitely challenged as most of the business we're pitching and winning is far outside of what we can actually deliver.
Cons
The firm won a "best of the year" award recently that we have failed to live up to and is now causing the business to falter because leadership is mostly awful. The CEO is a sub-tier hired gun and the one who whispers in his ear the most, who is supposed to represent the next generation of the agency is not only completely unqualified but she treats everyone terribly and is a model for someone you never want to be, much less work with. It's actually amazing how inept she is and how much negative effect she is having on the agency and how she continues to be here without being fired. I can't imagine a leadership team worth anything that would want her as part of it. She has completely lost all of us in the agency and most of the leadership team talk about her behind her back constantly as well. Worst of all, everyone thinks this, no one says (or feels like they can say) anything. I am pretty close to leaving.
