I worked at Bailey Nurseries full-time

    Pros

Large company with a lot of potential, branded and proven record.

    Cons

Too many individuals in the management sector, no room for growth as an individual, dont value the people like they should, dont expect to be happy ever.

    Advice to Management

The companies around you are going to suffocate you with your product and flood the market but your not even noticing that and yet you continue to raise the price of your products which are not any better than your competitors.

    Pros

CoWorkers, kind and talened. Most benefits good with exception of vacation time for newer employees

    Cons

Saw many employees disciplined, suspended or terminated by HR as a result of rigid attendance policy. Ironic appears worst attendance in the entire company is family owner in HR

    Advice to Management

Try having management adhere to policies in same way expected of low level employees. Maybe changes would be made then.

I have been working at Bailey Nurseries full-time

    Pros

Good people, solid management, clean / fresh environment, and intelligent workers are well compensated. One of the best companies I've ever worked for. I don't know where all the "family comes first" stuff comes from. The Bailey family is more than fair with their employees. I don't think people realize how hard this industry was hit during the recession. They did what needed to be done, as fairly as possible. That being said... it is THEIR COMPANY. We all have the opportunity to start our own company if we think we can do better.

    Cons

They do lack some corporate structure.... that people rely on too much these days (imo). Rules are not always cut and dry enough. Responsibilities need to be more clearly established. Sure, sometimes you get free work when people don't know the extent of their responsibilities... but things get messy at times. People that have stood out and taken the initiative... haven't been compensated well enough to hold onto. Might as well create a solid protocol for each position and stick too it, if you're going to overlook the standouts.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

    Pros

Some of the workers and family members are friendly
Used to be a great run business that cared about all of the workers (15+ years ago)

    Cons

    Poor upper management and leaders
    Low employee morale
Only a handful of people have any say in matters
    Low pay
    Language barriers
Would give top level Senior Management a 0/5 rating if possible

    Advice to Management

New fresh faces at the top of the company, someone who can lead a company out of mediocrity

I worked at Bailey Nurseries full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Learn about plants. Work outside. Great people (labor) working there.

    Cons

No real chance to advance. Family owned...First priority is the family. Don't care about long term employee or mid management opinion. Nepotism.

    Advice to Management

Quit making it so hard on yourselves. You know you need change, but yet take no steps to improve the climate. Good people with tons of experience (that you put time and $$ into) are flying out the door and going to competitors.

I worked at Bailey Nurseries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Continuing education- that is about it!

    Cons

Nepotism is the general rule at Bailey's, lots of entry level and lower mid-level positions, but you need to be from the family of a friend of the family to advance.

    Advice to Management

Give everyone a fair chance at advancement, and reign in some of you more out of control bosses. You have passed up some very good people for management positions while promoting less qualified persons due to favoritism.

    Advice to Management
