I have been working at Bain & Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Huge focus on people, sustainability and their development. Amazing work and super talented teams make the job worth it. Very transparent on changes and listening to what concerns there are. Big benefit for making travel very easy with a great expense policy.

    Cons

Compensation is lower at Consultant level versus other MBBs; follower attitude can be seen as frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Pick areas of the business that we are not going to have a follower strategy and lead the industry by redefining what to do there.

I worked at Bain & Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The Pros of working here include the pay, the amazing holiday party, resources, as well as the incredible brand on one's resume.

    Cons

I equate Bain to the Wizard of Oz - something that is advertised as super amazing, but in reality it's not. The culture is toxic. Most of the employees are incredibly unhappy, but stay for the perks and job stability. It is considered taboo to ever speak against the company culture. Anyone who voices their discontent is labeled a "bad seed" and quickly pushed out. In regards to the day-to-day work: The work is the same...

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

If you are open, you will learn new things every month. I've been there now for 18 years, and I still feel like I'm at the beginning of my career (in a very good way). Second, Bain's values are what you'd draw up on paper--open, honest, direct, focused on doing great things with our clients, and focused on personal growth for everyone in the organization

    Cons

Less flexibility location-wise if you want to live in smaller cities (e.g., Cleveland, Detroit, Miami, Salt Lake)

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. The company doesn't stay stagnant, and yet with all of the change in the world, you've been able to keep us true to our values.

I worked at Bain & Company full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Fantastic benefits, inclusive, no separation between actual consulting and support staff, free food

    Cons

cliquey, non transparent, shady, low pay in comparison to industry standards

    Advice to Management

Please be honest and open with support staff. Weekly 'touchbases' and 'check-ins' are great but mean absolutely nothing if leadership is not being transparent about how they truly feel in regards to your work. Although Bain has a lot to offer, do not get too comfortable and always watch YOUR back because at the end of the day, business and seniority comes first.

    Bain & Company Response

November 30, 2018Director, Global CSS Talent Management

We take performance and employee development seriously and want to see every employee succeed. Managers are trained to guide employees in their development. In addition to regular check-ins and learning on the job, employees have access to self-directed learning plans and other skill ...
